HOLY GRAIL time here with COLOURSOUND LIBRARY's first release !  This one is one of the msot sought after electronic - style library joints, with deep and dark sounds for those dedicated to cultivating these sounds!

Biomechanoid was a Joel Vandroogenbroeck project but it sounds nothing like Brainticket. The music was inspired by the paintings of H. R. Geiger. If you know the Swiss painter's work you'd expect this album to be rather dark, which it mostly is. The music is almost entirely electronic with occasional acoustic piano bits. The music is often more than a bit bizarre, sometimes reminiscent of Conrad Scnitzler's wilder works or perhaps Asmus Tietchens. At times you get the feeling of a science fiction B-movie soundtrack. Biomechanoid is deeply experimental stuff and definitely an acquired taste.

Vandroogenbroeck shares composition credit with Mac Prindy and Marc Monsen but it's unclear if either of the played on the album as there are no musical credits on the album sleeve. Biomechanoid was intended as a library album rather than for casual listening. The LP itself is fairly rare but does turn up on eBay and on sites specializing in used vinyl every once in a while. A number of mp3 sites on the web do offer it for download for a modest price.

Those who enjoy some of Vandroogenbroek's gentler releases for Coloursound, like the Meditations series, might not find this album to their taste. Those who like the more avant garde side of the European electronic music scene of the late '70s and early '80s might well enjoy adding Biomechanoid to their collection.

GRADING For LP / NOTATION pour les disques :

NM (NEAR MINT) : Near perfect copy, played only a few times.At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws.The highest grade I give for a non-seled record .../ Disque et pochette impéccables, joué seulement quelques fois.Au pire, une ou deux traces insignifiantes.C'est le grade le plus haut que je donne pour un disque non scellé...

EX (EXCELLENT) : Clean copy, slight surface marks/hairlines, cover has minor defaults. / Disque en excellent état, lègères marques en surface, pochette avec défauts mineurs....

VG++ (VERY GOOD++) : More surface marks, minor flaws,  or cover wear, minor edge. Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults / Très bon état dans l'ensemble, avec des traces sur le disque ou/et sur la pochette. Rien de sérieux mais assez de petits défauts pour ne pas être classé EX.

VG+ (VERY GOOD +) : Played a lot, will show signs of handling, has marks, possibly few light scratches but no jumps or sticks. Cover wear (light ring wear, heavier corner or edge wear) / Disque qui a tourné, visiblement utilisé, avec quelques marques (effets mineurs) mais pas de griffes (ne saute pas). Pochette avec quelques traces ( coin un peu corné, tranche légèrement abimée, saleté).

VG (VERY GOOD) : Used record, played a lot, has marks, few scratches, some crackle while playing  and but no jumps or sticks. Still quite listenable. Cover may have heavy corner, edge wear or split seam / Disque qui a été souvent joué (!) avec traces diverses, quelques grattes et des craquements audibles mais pas de rayures. Encore écoutable.Pochette défraichie, un peu déchirée, coins cornés ou côtés abimés.

G (GOOD) : Played a lot and more (but still playable), lot of scratches, crackle a lot while playing, may have jump or sticks and cover is damaged...so not so good ! This record must be very rare to be proposed in this state !!! / Disque qui a bien vécu (mais pas encore mort), pas mal de griffes, craque beaucoup, il peut sauter parfois et la pochette est sérieusement endommagée...donc pas si bon ! Ce disque doit être vraiment rare pour être proposé dans cet état !!!
