Description
VG plenty of gloss and shine with gentle signs of play.
This is considered one of Bix’s finest "Gang" recordings. The track is a Rodgers and Hart composition from the musical A Connecticut Yankee.

Izzy Friedman’s clarinet had a more technical, "liquid" style compared to Don Murray. Bix’s lead in the final ensemble is legendary for its drive and clarity. This session is famous because it shows Bix moving away from the "clomp" of earlier 1920s jazz into a more sophisticated, flowing style.
Bix’s lead is incredibly bright and "bell-like."
and he takes a half-chorus solo that is a masterclass in "economy of notes"—he doesn't play fast, he just plays the right notes.
Min Leibrook provides the foundation. While he wasn't as flamboyant as Adrian Rollini, his "four-to-the-bar" pulsing is what makes this record so "danceable" even 98 years later.
Irwin Abrams led a popular New York dance orchestra. Unlike the Bix side, this is "sweet" jazz—more melodic and arranged for dancing. While Bix is not on this side, it features top-tier New York session musicians of the era. Abrams' orchestra was a fixture at the Hotel Knickerbocker and the Hotel Manger in NYC.
