I love this recording so much that I am actually offering four of them for sale in different ads. I've sold this set before but this is a particularly excellent and complete copy. The box is not in great shape but is pretty good overall. The biggest flaw is that the inside top flap of the cover has collapsed slightly downward. Still, overall the box is solid and all three supplements are present, which is not always the case. Generally speaking, this is regarded as the greatest Carmen ever recorded. Just read the rave review from my Metropolitan Opera Guide to Recorded Opera in the photos. This set was beautifully packaged and includes the production notes, the Libretto, and the Novella upon which the opera is based.
Basically, you should almost always want to have Callas' interpretation of your favorite operas in your collection because she somehow transcends merely singing the role beautifully and actually brings the character to life. In other words, she's the finest actress in opera and brings psychological complexity and dignity to her performances. Now, I am listening to side 1 as I write it sounds close to perfect--so I believe this is my best and most complete copy, a true collector's piece.
