Description
BLACK SABBATH
" BLACK SABBATH VOL. 4 " First Pressing
Released in the UK in 1972 on VERTIGO RECORDS,
Catalogue number 6360 071
The LABELS are in excellent condition with the usual spindle trails (see photo) The small side two swirl above the hole with the VERTIGO'OUTLINE' logo between them, and the date above the 33 1/3 speed logo was the label design that came in for the first pressings early 1972.
The MATRIX numbers are; Side One 6360071 1 v // 1 , Side Two 6360071 2 v // 1 , further indication that this is one of the original FIRST PRESSINGS, renowned for superior audio quality (and justifiably so !).
VINYL
The VINYL is in NEAR MINT condition with a beautiful sheen and no marks, scuffs or scratches.
I have just play checked this LP and the sound is RICH and DYNAMIC as you always get with these early pressings. Side One play grades MINT on my system; Garrard 401 turntable with SME 3009 arm, Shure V-15 type III Cartridge going thru a Leak Varislope Pre-amp and Leak Stereo 50 Valve Amp then out of a pair of B & W DM 640 Speakers. BLISS !!! Side Two also play grades MINT, no clicks, pops, jumps or skips, SUPERB, a REALLY FULL DRAMATIC and MOVING ALBUM, OZZY never sounded better !!! As far as the playing surface and sound quality go, I don't reckon there are too many around that are in such good condition, this PLAYS FANTASTIC !!!
SLEEVE
The GATEFOLD SLEEVE is not in the same great condition as the vinyl. There is plenty of shelfwear on all the edges and the front and back (see photo). The previous owner has written their name top left, there is a tear top right where a sticker has been removed, and the four page booklet is missing.
