Description
BLACK SABBATH - " BLACK SABBATH " , Vertigo Records Ltd. (VO6 847 903 VTY) Stereo, 1970.
Very rare, 1970, English 1st issue (early pressing), LP issue of the classic Sabbath debut album.
Featuring the all-important matte finish gatefold sleeve. Plus, Vertigo swirl label and inner sleeve, with a big swirl on the text side above the spindle hole and no Dunbar credit for 'Warning' on tracklisting inside G/F sleeve.
Matrix numbers
SIDE A = VO6 1Y * 1 420 12 14 matrix.
SIDE B = VO6 2Y * 1 420 12 16 matrix.
English issue and pressing.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner sleeve has also been retained and included in the auction - see photo)
CONDITION:
VINYL = V.G.++ (No deep scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, just a few light spindle trails, etc. Under a bright grading lamp I can make out a couple of more obvious but extremely shallow marks and a few other faint scuffs just visible on the vinyl's surface - although none of these correspond directly to any audible defects. It generally plays pretty well, but there is some very faint occasional surface noise audible during the run-in, between tracks and duting the first few seconds of the quiet intro to the first track on side 1. As the record played, I did hear the odd faint click or crackle in the background from time to time, but generally once the music kicks in that's all you can hear.
Overall, although it is not quite perfect and I realise this will affect the value, it is by no means ruined by these minor imperfections and would still make a good honest copy for someone to play and enjoy - perfect copies of this LP exchange hands for a lot of money these days and although this is not one of those museum pieces, it is still a very serviceable copy that would be great for somebody out there to play and enjoy as it was originally intented.
Sadly, the original owner has written his name on the label in black pen - as per previously mentioned flaws, it will chip away at the value. But of course, it can't affect how it sounds so this LP would definitely better suit someone who wants it to listen to the great music than covet an object.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = V.G.++ (No rips, tears, huge creases, etc. But had to be marked down a bit for general wear particularly affecting the edges/corners, some very light general wear to the matte black inner gatefold and because the previous owner has also written his name on the rear sleeve in black pen - see photos for further clarification)
