BLACK SABBATH - " PARANOID` ", Vertigo Records (6360 011) Stereo, 1970.

Very rare, 1970 UK first pressing of the classic album by Black Sabbath.

Original Vertigo 'swirl' labels with the bigger swirl over the spindle hole of the B side, there is no visible gap between "Hand of Doom" and "Rat Salad" so that side looks like it has three tracks on it when there are four, matte finish gatefold sleeve with "Managment/Jim Simpson, Big Bear, Birmingham" credit - as the band parted company with him, this was rapidly changed. Many claim that there are just a couple of hundred examples with this credit.

This particular LP has it's issues as I will describe below, but being such a rare variant it makes sense to auction it still. As such, I will start it at just 99p and maybe this will end up being a nice bargain for somebody out there.

Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve (with the original retained for the auction, of course!)


CONDITION:

VINYL  =  EX- (No deep scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc. Fairly clean labels with light to average spindle trails. In normal light it looks pretty clean, but a bright grading lamp reveals a few paper scuffs and a few very faint surface marks - none of these superficial imperfections affect playback in any way.. Indeed, mostly it plays very well indeed - strong, clear and without interruption from clicks, crackles, etc... There's a minute amount of surface noise in the pressing during the silent run-in, but once the music starts, it disappears and plays strong and clear. But there is one other issue with this vinyl - some way into 'Rat Salad' there is a speck of dirt on the vinyl which does sound as a faint click for 4 rotations. I've given this record an extra clean on my Moth record cleaning machine and although that has improved it, there's still a bit of whatever it is lodged in the grooves. There's a good chance that some more intensive cleaning of this area and possibly even just more playing will shift this imperfection, but out of fear of doing more harm than good, I've decided to just auction it as it is.

Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)


SLEEVE =  V.G.- (No big creases, seam splits, ring wear, defacing, etc. Despite the good points, there is one major flaw - the original owner put tape around the edges of the front cover to 'protect it'. Now removed, this has left residue and staining on the edges of the sleeve, inside and out. Also, there are two spots on the inside of the gatefold where the sleeve has stuck together and subsequently torn a little as it has been pulled apart - see photos for further clarification)

INNER SLEEVE = V.G.- (The same as the sleeve, suffering from old tape on it and a bit of light foxing as well on this inner - see photos)
