Another from my personal collection.I have decided to list this earliest 2nd UK pressing of Black Sabbath's Paranoid. Rarely surfaces for sale in this condition with very near as perfect audio quality on my systems with (no) loud clicks,pops or nasty crackles during the play, and the rarest to find and very desirable 'laminated gatefold cover' complete with the original Vertigo record sleeve!  This album has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover for protection for over 35 years, which has obviously preserved this fragile cover for all of these years!  This is the earliest original 2nd UK pressing, beleive me one of the hardest to ever find in this condition. This features the 'small Vertigo logo on the labels (Rarely found on the 2nd issues featureing #1 and #1 matrix endings (only earliest 2nd  UK ISSUE) complete with the original  vertigo record sleeve and original and probably the hardest to ever find 'laminated' gatefold cover (only 2nd UK press) in spectacular condition throughout!  The audio is cristal clear and very vibrant Unbeleivably rare to find in this condition! 

Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band from Birmingham. The original band line up of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums) is the same as the current line up (2007) although there have been many shifts of personnel over the years.

Black Sabbath remain a dominant influence in the heavy metal genre!!

Paranoid is the influential and iconic second album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, and contains some of their most famous work, including the songs "Iron Man", "War Pigs", and the title track "Paranoid."

Released September 18, 1970 in the UK, only seven months after the band's debut, Paranoid is Black Sabbath's only UK #1 album, displacing Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water for one week!!.

Paranoid peaked at number 12 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart (North America). The singles "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" peaked at number 61 and number 52, respectively, on the Pop singles chart. "Paranoid" as a single went to number 4 in the UK. In 2003, the album was ranked number 130 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time!.

The original UK vinyl release was in a gatefold sleeve, with the generic Vertigo 'swirl' inner bag. The inner of the gatefold had a b/w photo of the band, posed outdoors on a grassy hill, being their first appearance on album artwork. To spread the original picture over the gatefold, Osbourne was separated from the other members of the band and a section of the grass was copied and dropped into the gap. This is only readily apparent when one sees that original promo photo, whereupon it is then easy to spot the added grass on the LP!!.

The album was originally titled "War Pigs" but it is said that the record company changed it to "Paranoid" because of sensitivity about the Vietnam War. However, the band's visual interpretation of a "War Pig" was still featured on the cover. Nonetheless, the album's title and its picture of man with a sword jumping out from behind a tree meshed well together and the cover is now considered a classic album cover!!.

The labels.

The original VERTIGO labels are in awesome condition! features the swirl on side a. and the small swirl logo and track listings on side b. All rights.... are featured around the label rim(only early press)!  Amaizingly any spidering is very, very minimal and can even be counted on one hand only. It can  just barely be seen angled to the light only, it is obvious that this vinyl has barely ever been played no more than a hand full of times ever!, little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round.  This has only ever been played a handfull of times only from new when i initially purchased it! So rare  for an album that is 37 years old! very very collectable indeed!

The vinyl is absolutely superbe on initial visual inspection this looks like new and still retains its sheen from new! (please note this vinyl has only ever been  played by me personally and indeed hardly ever played at all in the last 25 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ringware and damage!     This is how I have always stored my records! Any marks that could posibly be seen when angled to the light would be sleeve removal only, to be honest I find it hard to see any at all! Importantly, at least there are no marks or scratches that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops!

 The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track prior to listing on a top system and the audio quality is superbe TOP TOP TOP! cristal clear and extreemely vibrant, nice and quiet even in between quieter passages and in the intervals!(no) signs of any distortion, grooveware no loud contant clicks or pops !    Please note! To be highly critical I heard  light static ticks during the quiet track 'Planet Caravan' in a couple of places, but this track is notoriously quiet, in fact I struggle to find any marks on the playing surface that would cause this, probably where a needle has been dropped at these points only. This was nothing too bad to spoil the overall audio experience of this album in my opinion.    Even in between tracks this is lovely and quiet! I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl and the 2ND EVER ALBUM RELEASED  by this awesome band ''black sabbath'' and so hard to find the earliest 2nd pressing like this! Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! The audio must grade at least excellent plus to very near mint for the most part in my opinion!

Please note! I always make this disclaimer! That although I never heard any consistant loud clicks or pops during the play of this record please allow for the odd static/ticks (not )consistant throughout the audio, please remember  that this is a genuine 37 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 37 year old system!

This is the original 1st press Vertigio gatefold  (laminated) front, cover RARELY EVER SEEN IN THIS  TOP  CONDITION!! Absolutely awesome this shows very (very) minimal storage ware\marks\idents  WORTH MENTIONING  only the very lightest laminate thumb creases can be seen  if looked for angled in the light very superficial and light general rubbing only in the laminate with age could possibly be seen  but this is still exceptionally, super glossy in appearence! Very small mark top right corner where laminate has finished short but not really noticed unless looked for Amaizingly (no) major nasty creases (see photo) superbe condition of this  cover which is nearly 37 years old!!(no) splits or tares sharp corners and all text can be read! (no) splits (no) tares (no) nasty hand writing! The spine is straight and suffers from no flattening with age just slight laminate creasing! IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND EARLIEST LAMINATE GATEFOLDS LIKE THIS!This must grade at least excellent to excellent plus  in my opinion! 

This is the original vertigo poly lined sleeve (no) edge splits just light usual staining with age!! There is a small tare on one side of the die cut hole ,(see photos),  superbe condition ! and original !!!! PLEASE NOTE! THE VINYL IS ALWAYS STORED SEPERATELY FROM THE ORIGINAL SLEEVE.!
