BLACK SABBATH - PARANOID
(Vertigo 6360 011)
RARE UK Swirl Pressing
Extremely RARE original UK pressing of the all-time classic "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, released on Vertigo Records (1970). How many would have survived??
Machined matrices: 1Y//2 and 2Y//1
After the release of their debut album in February 1970, Black Sabbath returned to the studio in June that year, again with producer Rodger Bain, to record their second album. The album was recorded at Regent Sound Studios and Island Studios in London, England. The album's eponymous single "Paranoid" was written in the studio at the last minute to fulfill the record label's request for a single.
The album was originally intended to be called Warpiggers which was a slang term for a black magic wedding. It was then shortened to War Pigs and eventually Paranoid after the record company became convinced that the song of the same name had potential as a single. As drummer Bill Ward explains: "We didn't have enough songs for the album, and Tony just played the "Paranoid" guitar lick and that was it. It took twenty, twenty-five minutes from top to bottom." The record company thought the album would fare better commercially if it were named after the first single.
The song "Iron Man" was originally entitled "Iron Bloke". Upon hearing the main guitar riff for the first time, Ozzy Osbourne remarked that it sounded "like a big iron bloke walking around". The title was later changed to "Iron Man" as bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler composed the lyrics.
Vinyl: VG++. A lovely heavy earliest UK swirl vinyl. It has a few hairlines on each side. The replay is simply awesome and on EX level easily. Some light static on the soft track "Planet Caravan". This recording is awesome and the way to hear one of the Sabs classics with beautiful stereo channel separation. The vinyl has a beautiful glossy appearance. There are a few hairlines visible, none deep or feelable and these visual flaws prevent me from rating this EX. A small name in green on each label. The audio performance once again is mindblowing.
Gatefold Sleeve: VG+. A sleeve which is impossible to find with an amount of wear being unlaminated and with the main colour being black. This is in decent condition with moderate wear especially on the top and bottom edges. The spine has some wear although all writing remains fully legible. There is also an amount of corner wear from storage (see pics). Please have a look at the pics. Still a nice sleeve though and ultimately rare as hen's teeth and impossible to find now even in the UK!!
This has the Swirl polylined inner sleeve with two purple stickers on the bottom reading "Sabbath". One side of the inner sleeve has scuffs to the top (see pic.) but all sides are intact without seam splits.
This is a great investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
Important : International postage will be registered and insured if over GBP 20.00. Please wait for my invoice before paying. Postage will be according to Royal Mail rates. Postage is NOT a money spinning exercise for me.
Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly! PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one! I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem! This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bid lists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem. Thanks again!!
This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
