This auction is for the formidable second Black Sabbath album "Paranoid". This is a fantastic classic album that needs exploring by all lovers of well crafted music. 

Have you ever heard a 70's metal band swing so hard? Because I haven't. Bill Ward and Geezer Butler are the real stars and unsung heroes of this band. No one should be tapping their foot listening to metal, and yet that's exactly what happens throughout this record, particularly on the middle sections of "Electric Funeral", "Hand of Doom" and "Fairies Wear Boots". 
My favourite moments in Sabbath tunes, however, are the marvelous climactic codas they often include at the end of their more lengthy tunes. It began on their first album's title track and continues here with "War Pigs". Beginning at around the 5:42 mark there is a glaring change and Tony is off and running (as if he weren't before!). The first segment is preparatory to a mountainous melody (it's too pretty to just be called a riff) with Geezer going nuts underneath him all the while, never missing a beat. This songwriting tactic would reach its zenith on their fourth album. 

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips.  A couple of shallow hairlines , none feelable. Very remarkable for this 1970 vinyl!!! The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provide a fantastic audio experience with channelling not equalled by later re-issues. I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!

BACK IN 1970 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED, IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN SMALL AMOUNTS AS A FIRST PRESS - AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!!!

Vinyl: VG++ .  A sensational find!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. Only a few hairlines can be seen under a strong lightsource. Fantastic songcraft!! This will be an upgrade version for most collectors.  Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely ever any surface noise. This is a great clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely great and plays to a high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong VG++  for audio without anything untoward, barely any static or crackle at all - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps.

Gatefold Sleeve: VG+.  A gatefold sleeve with just light moderate storage wear and a couple of thumb creases near the opening. The spine is still 100% legible. No splits and no major creases. Tiny edge undeerlaminate creasing near the edges. No writing or marks. All in all not perfection but a very acceptable sleeve. This is the far rarer laminated version which edges the unlaminated verion anytime for condition and depth of colour. f course the proper first "VO PRICE CODE" printed to the rear. A small indented name towards the rear top does not distract from the overall quality of this sleeve.
