BLACK SABBATH - PARANOID

A nice copy of this increasingly rare and sought after early UK pressing of this 1970 Black Sabbath classic LP on the coveted UK Vertigo swirl label, STEREO 6360 011

The appearance of the vinyl is very good. The vinyl has retained a nice sheen but there are a few visible surface scuffs and wispy hairlines visible, even in normal daylight when held at the right angle. Under a bright light more surface scuffs and wispy hairlines come into view indicating that this record has had it's fair share of plays but there is nothing feelable or anything obviously beneath the surface and there's obviously a lot of life and listening time left in this copy.

The labels are excellent+. Near perfect in fact, except for a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side.

The laminated "Keef" outer gatefold sleeve is very good+.  Such an iconic sleeve, and with firm edges with virtually no scuffing at all, right-angled corners with just minimal rubbing, and a firm spine with all writing legible. There is some sporadic laminate creasing on the front and reverse side, and six horizontal 1cm laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side, two of which do impinge upon the spine. The rich vibrancy of the original colouring remains intact, however, and the inside of the gate fold is excellent with barely any blemishes at all, and certainly no unwanted writing or doodles. Lovely!

Finally, the quality of the audio is very good. In fact, for much of the album the quality of the audio is truly excellent with great tone and clarity even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. There are no skips or nasty pops or clicks but there is mild (but noticeable) background crackle during the quieter moments, more noticeable at the beginning and end of each side and during the quieter moments including the interludes and Planet Caravan. This is mild crackle, I stress, but it is noticeable. of course, being the mostly loud, robust rock music that it is for much of the album this background crackle is totally non-noticeable. Is it perfect sound quality? No. Does the album make for a great listen? Yes!!

Comes with original Vertigo swirl poly-lined inner sleeve which has no splits or tears and remains in truly excellent condition. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a solid very good copy of this rare and sought after 1970 UK early pressing rock classic - a "must" for any serious rock vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
