Description
Stunning archival keeper copy of one of the greatest and most legendary hard rock/heavy metal LPs of all time. Amazing fidelity and this copy is in superb condition, with only the very slightest hints of it existing in the real world.
There are a number of details which make this an extremely rare genuine first issue:
* Unlaminated cover
* Inside gatefold credits "Management Jim Simpson Big Bear Birmingham." Subsequent issues of this LP do not have this credit as Simpson was reportedly fired by the band shortly after this first pressing was released.
* Earliest matrix numbers: 1Y-1 / 2Y-1
* Large "Swirl" logo on label
* "All rights reserved…" text on label border
This copy includes the original Vertigo Records inner sleeve
Condition:
Cover: unlamented gatefold cover in fantastic EX+ condition. Lightest crease along spine from gatefold being opened a couple of times. Odd patch top right where it looks like it might have been a little dirty at some point, or maybe just a slight manufacturing imperfection. No fraying along edges (except the tiniest small trace on bottom and an ultra-tiny mark at front pocket opening. You'll miss them the first time you look, hardly worth mentioning but this is an original Paranoid after all…I'm leaving no turn unstoned here!
Label: superb, two tiny hints of spindle lines that you'll have to squint under bright light to notice. That's all. (The odd vertical line in the label picture is from my scanner and isn't really on the label.)
Disc surface: M- a couple of light lines from sliding in and out of sleeve. A few tiny odd manufacturing marks on or near lead-in groove on side B. Keep in mind that UK Vertigo label pressings, like UK Island Records pressings, were not the greatest to begin with. Being kept in the label's custom plastic sleeve for decades can affect a record's surface, but this LP has emerged pretty much unscathed.
All in all a top copy of this ultra-rare original issue.
