BLACK SABBATH Paranoid (Vertigo 6360 011) RARE UK Swirl 1st Pressing EX++
RARE original very first UK pressing of Black Sabbath`s seminal "Paranoid" on Vertigo Records (September 1970).
While the debut album "Black Sabbath" provided the blueprint, follow-up "Paranoid" clearly marked Black Sabbath`s coming-of-age. Quite possibly the most groundbreaking hard rock album ever made, it proves difficult to imagine the effect that the first chords of, say, "War Pigs" or the title track exerted on young male minds when first blaring forth from the transistor radio.
Needless to say, it was a life-changing experience. Sort of.
GRADING:
EX++ COVER. Original unlaminated UK gatefold sleeve with light edge and corner wear (along the bottom). Otherwise only minimal
general wear, such as a few small creases and a superficial corner crease (on the back cover, top left). Please see photos for details.
- Includes original custom-printed Vertigo Records inner sleeve, date-stamped "4/70", and therefore a first pressing!
EX+ RECORD. Visually, the record has a fair bit of mostly superficial hairlining. All said, the lp has been played, but it was obviously decently taken care of.
- Play-graded EX+ with some background crackle in quieter passages or in between tracks. Most noticeably 8-9 light pops at the end of
"Hand Of Doom".
- A single superficial scratch (2 inches long; across "Planet Caravan"/"Iron Man") is obviously inaudible.
- Fair amount of spindle wear to the original Vertigo "swirl" labels.
- Matrix stamps read "1 Y // 1", respectively "2 Y // 1". This, along with the fact that the (original) inner sleeve is appropriately
date-stamped (April 1970) shows this copy of "Paranoid" to be an original, very first UK pressing.
Excellent value for your money with this hard-to-find UK 1st pressing: Miss out at your own peril!
