Black Sabbath : Seventh Star A2/B2 1st press Promotional Copy

This Promo first pressing plays with fantastic quality on both sides and there is literally no interference to be heard.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE for sure and has a clarity, definition and power that could not be any better.  The record is also visually stunning and has hardly ever been played, once or twice I would say.  It may originally have been touted as an Iommi solo album so doesn't have that typical Sabbath sound (well that ended with Sabotage in my opinion!) but the sonic quality here is undeniable.

The cover is also in superb condition and as can be seen it has a 'Promotional Copy Not For Resale' stamp on the back cover.  The lyric inner has a couple of small splits but it remains in excellent shape overall.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and looks 'shop fresh' truth be told.  It has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen and there are no scratches on either side.  There is one tiny very faint 'blemish' on S2 but it is difficult to find!  A couple of barely visible hairlines also but you could wish to find a better version than this.  The Vertigo labels are in superb order with only one tiny spindle trace visible on S1.  A stunning example!

Play grading

The percussive intro on 'In For The Kill' is 'as new' and from then on it plays with a power and depth that has lost none of its original quality.  It provides a Mint start to the album.

'No Stranger To Love' plays with stunning precision from the very first groove and the first verse is equally as good.  It continues in the same way with no interference and whilst this may be a 'heavily' produced album there is no denying the sonic quality on offer here.  Another Mint track.

There are a couple of clicks in the dead wax but the intro on 'Turn To Stone' plays perfectly with no intrusion.  It then 'rocks out' with incredible power and no distortion and to the very end there is no interference.  Mint

The instrumental 'Sphinx (The Guardian)' is of course very quiet but the clarity throughout is so impressive.  No ticks or clicks and only a handful of mega light dust ticks.  Mint-

'Seventh Star' ends the side with stunning audio from start to finish with no 'background' of any kind.  'As new' is again the correct description and it patently obvious this record has hardly been played.  A Mint track for sure.

I have no wish to repeat myself but 'Danger Zone' has a sonic quality that cannot be faulted.  No interference, just pure unadulterated Mint audio from start to finish.

'Heart Like A Wheel' has a couple of barely audible ticks on the intro and then plays as per the rest of the album.  There is no underlying static, no ticks or clicks and obviously no skips or jumps!  Mint-

'Angry Heart' is Mint I need say no more!

The acoustic intro on 'In Memory' plays beautifully and the first verse is also faultless.  It proceeds to play with a quality that is undimmed despite being 35 years old.  Again there is no 'background' and it brings the album album to a satisfying Mint close.

In summary this rare first press Promo is a FINAL UPGRADE album for sure.  There is quite simply no interference of any kind and the clarity, depth and power of the audio is equal to that of an un-played record.  It may not be a typical Sabbath album but you cannot fault the quality of the audio. 

The Cover & Lyric Inner

The cover is in superb condition with no real shelf wear at all.  In fact it only has a very small amount of corner wear bottom right and a minor corner crease top right that you can also see on the reverse side.  Aside from that it is in perfect order and the 'Promotional Copy Not For Resale' stamp can clearly be seen on the back.

The lyric inner is very clean but does have one small bottom edge split and an even smaller split on the left edge.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
