Description
HERE is a great copy of Black Sabbath's debut LP, Black Sabbath, on original UK Vertigo swirl vinyl from 1970. This is where it all started, and this particular copy is the earliest you can find, fully complete with first day of issue characteristics unique to both vinyl and sleeve. That includes the Philips credit on the vinyl, together with the incorrect and swiftly withdrawn sleeve text warning which states: "Copyright subsists in all Stereo recordings" (corrected to "all Vertigo recordings" on subsequent issues). There is also a slightly different feel to this first press sleeve (maybe the finish or the type of card used) which some collectors would be familiar with (a Vertigo expert might be able to tell blindfolded). This sleeve is a solid VG with no writing, no rips, no stickers and no sticker damage but just some general edgewear, cornerwear and spinewear and, remarkably for this unlaminated gatefold, there is no hint of ringwear; overall this is a very strong, straight and presentable sleeve, as you can no doubt see in my pictures. The heavy slab of first press vinyl is also a strong VG; both sides look great in normal daylight with just very light and wispy surface and sleeve withdrawal marks to be seen when viewed under strong halogen lighting. Both Vertigo swirl labels with first press Philips credit are in great condition with no writing, rips or sticker damage. Good luck if you are bidding - please check out my other items.
