UK third press with large Vertigo swirl labels, gatefold sleeve & original swirl inner
Description:
An original UK third pressing of Black Sabbath, released in 1970 on the Vertigo label, catalogue number 847 903 VTY.
A highly desirable early UK issue of this landmark debut, retaining the iconic large Vertigo swirl labels and classic gatefold presentation.
This copy features the large swirl labels with later label text configuration consistent with early 1970s pressings, alongside the VO 6 / 847 903 VTY catalogue format.
The matrices read 847903 1Y//1 ▽420 / 847903 2Y//1 ▽420, indicating early stampers carried through into subsequent pressings.
The sleeve is the original matte gatefold, with the familiar eerie front cover and internal credits panel. The spine retains clear “VERTIGO ▪ BLACK SABBATH ▪” text.
Also present is the original UK swirl inner sleeve with poly lining and patent text, correct for early Vertigo issues.
A strong early UK pressing of this essential album, offering the classic swirl label presentation at a more accessible level than true first issues.

Condition:
The record is in EXCELLENT MINUS condition. Surfaces retain a glossy sheen with light signs of handling visible under strong light, including light hairlines and faint sleeve marks. Nothing feelable, and playback remains clear with no significant issues. A solid, well-kept copy. EXCELLENT MINUS.
The sleeve is in VERU GOOD PLUS condition. There is visible edge wear and rubbing along the bottom edge, with small areas of foxing. Corners show minor wear and there is general handling visible, but the structure remains solid, the spine is fully readable, and the artwork still presents very well. VERY GOOD PLUS.
The original swirl inner is in EXCELLENT condition, showing creasing and age-related wear, but no major splits or damage. A clean and correct example. EXCELLENT.
