Black Sabbath : Technical Ecstacy 1Y6 / 2Y6

This very early pressing on the Spaceship Vertigo label plays to a fantastic standard and if it has ever been played before I would say only once, twice at most.  The audio is almost 'as new' with just two light clicks on S1 but there is no other interference besides that, not even a solitary dust tick!  The vinyl has that immaculate 'new' visual quality and has no spindle wear at all.  It's incredible to think it's over 44 years old!

The cover is near perfect and has been so well preserved down the years and the lyric sheet and inner sleeve are also in superb condition.  A FINAL UPGRADE album in my opinion.

Visual grading

The vinyl is a thing of beauty!  It has the most immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches and I cannot locate any hairlines either.  It looks 'as new' with no imperfections at all.  The run out grooves are pristine as are the labels which have no spindle wear.

Play grading

I have played S1 in its entirety and there is no need to describe each track in detail as they all play to a superb standard with barely any interference.  It may not be their finest hour but it nonetheless plays with tremendous power and depth and with a clarity that can hardly be faulted.  An example of this clarity is the quiet intro on 'You Won't Change Me' which has no 'background' at all.  In fact the only interference on S1 are two light clicks towards the end of this track which seem to be caused by what looks like a tiny needle drop (barely visible!) although it might just be a pressing issue as I'm not entirely sure this has ever been played before!  The clicks are not loud and are to a degree 'buried' in the sheer volume of the music.  Aside from this side plays with stunning quality with no other intrusion.

S2 goes one better and grades as Mint from start to finish with no interference.  The clarity on 'She's Gone' is unbelievable!  It plays beautifully throughout but the 'orchestral/acoustic' intro in particular is stunning with not even a dust tick.  The other tracks play loud and true with great definition and no distortion.  The 'high octane' finish on 'Dirty Women' is a real highlight, the playback is so powerful!

The Cover, Lyric Sheet & Inner

The cover is in superb condition and is practically 'as new'.  There is just one very small corner crease top left but it is so minor and you don't even notice it at first glance.  Everything else is in perfect order and for once the white border on both sides has none of the marking/fading that you so often see.

The lyric sheet is in perfect condition with no handling wear at all.  The original poly-lined 'Plastic Bags...' inner has no side splits or tears, barely any creasing and only very minimal age related fading around the edges.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
