Description
Stunning Original 1970 UK 1st Pressing Vertigo Swirl 'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath! With Mega Rare Centre Label Variation, 1st Press Sleeve Warning Text and Original Spiral Inner Sleeve!!! Stunning Nr Mint/Nr Mint Condition!!! You Will Never Find a Rarer or Better Conditioned UK 1st Pressing!!!
March 1970 saw a landmark in modern rock music; heavy metal was invented, and this is the album that did it, the then Unknown Brummie band 'Black Sabbath' hit the top 10 running with this, their debut. Up until that point Sabbath had just a very localised live fanbase around the Birmingham area, and the Vertigo label (owned by Phillips) were completely unprepared and overwhelmed by the success of this groundbreaking album. As a result of this, demand completely outstripped supply and the tiny initial batch of 1st pressings were snapped up immediately. Of this 1st batch, virtually none have survived unscathed today, most are gouged scratched and unplayable and have trashed sleeves and missing swirl inners ... and then there is this one... Mint-/ MInt- it is the most beautiful copy of this very rare UK 1st press I have ever had the pleasure of owning. However this alone is not what makes this record so special... Please read on...
You are bidding on a very, very special UK Vertigo Records 1970 UK 1st Pressing of the Legendary Debut LP by Black Sabbath!!! It has all the required features marking it as a true UK 1st press (both disc and sleeve) and is in impossible MINT- MINT- condition. However what marks this out as even more special (if is is possible to get 'more special' that a MINT-/MINT- UK 1st pressing of this album) is the 1st press side 2 centre label, (see image). You will notice that, as is usual for UK 1st pressings, the small side 2 swirl is situated above the central spindle hole. However what sets this record apart is the fact that the outlined word 'Vertigo' is also set ABOVE the spindle hole, rather than below as is common with virtually every other UK 1st press ever pressed!!! This is massively rare and identifies this as one of just a very small batch (it is thought less than 100) that came off the UK presses with this error. Nobody knows why this occurred, it may possibly have been due to label shortages leading to the emergency use misprinted labels. Like I said above, demand massively outstripped supply and took everybody at Vertigo Phillips by surprise, so mistakes may well have been made. Whatever the case, a quick look at all the other UK 1st presses of this record that have been sold or are currently selling on eBay will confirm that this is a real one-off. Not only that, but this sleeve has the correct features (the word Vertigo included in the warning text, and Ozzy spelled 'Ossie) identifying it as the true original UK 1st press sleeve that matches the disc!!!

Now we get to the condition and what can I say - This LP is in immaculate condition throughout!!! The cool 1970's thick & chunky vinyl is in visually and aurally stunning condition and shines with a 'just pressed' look and feel, it really looks as if this record came off the press yesterday!!! You will NOT find another UK 1st press Vertigo vinyl copy of this great LP in such amazing condition!!! Whether you are a fan looking for the best pressing out there or just looking for a sound investment, the value of this record will just rise and rise. These LP's simply do not turn up in this condition anymore!!!
The Classic 1st press 'variation batch' Vertigo Swirl centre labels are in impossible Mint- condition with NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! In fact, the only indication that this record has EVER seen a turntable are the almost invisible traces of spindle lines around the centre hole. The gramophone rims containing the all important 1st Press matrix's are also Mint-!!!
The vinyl itself is truly breathtaking. It has NO Scratches, No scuffing, NO marks, NO Groove Wear, NO warping or blemishes of any kind at a!!! Nothing!!! This record is completely Blemish free and looks like it came off the master press just yesterday!!! It has all the deep, lustrous shine a newly pressed record!!! I am very pleased to state that this is a record that also plays as good as it looks!!! It has NO jumps, NO pops and NO hissing!!! This deep clear crisp sound of this vinyl will knock you dead if you are lucky enough to win this auction. As well as it's visual perfection and perfect sound, it also feels great. You can feel the quality of this thick and chunky UK 1st pressing and the weight is amazing - it weighs a ton!!I I have no hesitation whatsoever in grading this vinyl MINT- , it is visual perfection. What more can I say!!
The classic UK 1st Press gatefold Hipgnosis sleeve is also absolutely stunning!!! The clarity and vividness of the colours in the 'Woman by the Lake' design marks this as the best I have ever seen. It has retained all of its vibrancy over the years. Obviously this copy, being so close to perfection, has NO Tears, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind. As you are now probably aware, we are dealing here with a record that is in a different league to most of the others out there!!! It is completely blemish free!!! The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with NO RING WEAR and MINT edges and spine!!! The sleeve is a faultless MINT- and is the best I have ever seen - a perfect match for this very special record. Of course, the LP comes with its ORIGINAL poly-lined VERTIGO SWIRL windowed inner sleeve, which is also stunning, with NO creases and NO separation of the inner poly-lining!!!
The price of this landmark UK 1st press Black Sabbath Debut in this kind of condition and with this very rare label variation will just rise and rise. An absolutely essential (and very rare) record that every collector of 1960's & 70's will want in their collection!!! Don't miss this one!!! Needless to say, due to the price this record will probably fetch, insurance is highly recommended - see below. You really do not want to miss adding this pristine rarity to your collection - this record is worth pushing the boat out for!!!!

Postage ... Hazey Jane has absolutely NO hidden surcharges; the price you win is the price you pay, just add the relevant postage, it's as simple as that! We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.
A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards. If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...
Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.
We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
