Thank you for viewing my listings.  This album is from my fathers large collection of UK albums that he has collected over the past 45 years or more.  All of the records will be play tested at loud volume prior to listing on a top system. I will describe the audio quality as honest as possible and as I hear it.

1st UK pressing Black Sabbath Vol 4 earliest #1#1 matrix Large vertigo swirl logo on the labels complete with 1st issue gatefolf and Booklet still attached.

Please note! This album is listed for its rarety rather than for its condition! There is some general ware and tare on the cover and record sleeve. Having said that, the audio is absolutely stunning throughout, and plays through without any loud clicks or pops,, Audio graded at very near mint throughout!

 This is very very sought after original 1st press! Very Very rarely seen with #1 and #1 1st press matrix! Mainly always seen with #1 and #2! This being the very earliest and  very collectable indeed!!, The audio is stunning clear and vibrant throughout,Very near perfect throughout! Clear and extreemely vibrant. no loud clicks or pops just light interfearence only in isolated quiet place in the form of two (light) scuff noises at the intro to the track 'Changes' only. I heard nothing too serious that spoilt the overall awesome audio experience in my opinion! Noted that this is complete with the original 1st issue thicker card type gatefold cover with booklet attacted (only found on earliest pressings)  also has the original Vertigo Swirl record sleeve. Please note that these do have some light general ware and tare with age but are complete !!

Black Sabbath Vol 4 is the fourth studio album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1972!!.

The original UK release was as a gatefold sleeve, with a page glued into the middle. This gave each band member their own photo page, with the band on-stage (and photographed from behind) at the very centre.

The album was originally to be titled Snowblind, the name of a track on the album which was a reference to cocaine use. The record company felt this to be controversial, for the American market in particular, so the title was altered. The song "Snowblind" had to be re-recorded because in the original Ozzy yelled the word "cocaine" after each verse. He can still be heard whispering "cocaine" in the final version, and he often shouted, "Cocaine!" during live performances of the song, as he does in their Reunion live album and the bootleg album Live at Last. In the liner notes of the album Black Sabbath thanks to "the great COKE-Cola Company," a slightly-hidden drug reference. Also during the Vol. 4 era, Geezer Butler sported a sticker on his white bass that said "Enjoy CoCaine," a takeoff on the phrase "Enjoy CocaCola."

The track "Changes" was one of the first Black Sabbath tracks to extensively use keyboards - piano was featured previously, on "Planet Caravan" from the Paranoid album and 'Solitude' from the Master Of Reality album.

The album was recorded in California, the first time Sabbath had recorded a studio album outside the United Kingdom.  "Changes" was a piano ballad written by Tony Iommi including some use of a mellotron for the orchestral sounds. A lyrically-adjusted cover version gave Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne a number one single thirty one years later.

The album was reissued in 1996 on the Power Sound label as Children of the Grave with a new cover and one additional track, the "Children of the Grave" recording from Live at Last!.

The album's title and cover art were spoofed for the 1992 Peaceville Volume 4 compilation!!!

All songs were written by Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward!!.

The labels.

The original labels are in awesome condition, features the swirl on side a. and the swirl logo and track listings on side b.(only early press)! All rights.... are featured around the label rim(only early press) I can hardly see any spidering (perhapes a handful only) and hardly any spindle ware  which indicates that this has only had minimal play, very (very) rare for an album that is 35 years old!!

The vinyl.

Original heavy thicker and deeper grooved type of vinyl only seen on these very early pressings! Very soon were changed to flimsier and less robust type of vinyls.

The vinyl still retains its sheen from new in my opinion! (please note this vinyl has (not) been over played in my opinion! On initial inspection the vinyl looks very tidy indeed, only in strong light could possibly any small very minor surface marks possibly be seen,!  There no  signs of grooveware or distortion at all! 

The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track and the audio quality is superbe the first thing to note is that the audio is cristal clear and extreemely vibrant! (In strong light any marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal marks \minor minute surface marks only when held in very strong light ! This plays through clear and vibrant ,,Very near as perfect on my system. Even in between tracks there is extreemely minimal noise! Please note! It is easy to be critical about these 70s pressings! Please allow for very light static\crackle\ during very very isolated quiet places only, (noted I heard two scuff noises at the intro of the track 'Changes' that's all. 

I must emphisize that the audio in general was very very vibrant and extreemely enjoyable throughout! I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl indeed. I would grade the Audio at least Excellent plus to Very Near Mint through out!

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! That although I never heard any loud clicks  during the play of this record please allow for the odd static  in very isolated quiet places only, certainly not consistant throughout the audio,Please remember that this is a genuine 40 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 40 year old system!

The cover.

This is the original 1st issue thicker card type gatefold (non) laminated (card type) 1st press  cover with black on the inside opening Printed  by ''HOWARDS PRINTERS'' (Slough)  Please note There is light general rubbing ware  and some very light corner bumping\creases only. I can see a mark at the front top right corner where a sticker has been removed. Please note the  gatefold being primarily black in colour these are virtually impossible to keep as new (see photos) Remember this is 40 years old and original! ,   The spine is lovely and square and the writing is fully legable with some light scuffing /rubbing ware with age also. This is strong and straight as it should be!! The colour booklet is in as new condition full intact and well secured! This cover is graded at least very good plus to excellent in my opinion!

The record sleeve

This is the original vertigo swirl poly lined sleeve in superbe condition Just light staining \fading with age and a side split beginning to form at one side and tare at the die cut hole on one side (see photos) Please note the vinyl is stored seperately from the sleeve!! This is how i have always stored my records!
