BLACK SABBATH - VOL 4 1972 White Label Promo

WOW!! For sale is a mega rare and highly desirable white label promo copy of what I consider Black Sabbath’s finest album, Vol 4 in PRISTINE, rarely handled, and most likely unplayed condition!! This is a final upgrade, TOP COPY and I don’t even know what a nicer copy would look like. These promo copies were given out to radio stations and reviewers in advance of the release of the album and are often considered the earliest pressings.

This copy is from the collection of Bob Senn - a renowned Santa Barbara, California DJ and program director for KTMS FM “The Rock on the Coast”. When Mr. Senn passed, his collection was acquired by my friend who has commissioned me to help sell them. There are thousands of records in the collection, almost all promotional copies in mint or close to mint condition.

Note: Bob Senn was NOT a Black Sabbath fan and this did not fit the station format so it is almost certain that when he received this from the record company, he safely filed it away without even opening the gatefold or removing the disc. From there it sat untouched for nearly 50 years. I have only removed the disc a few times to examine and photograph it. It’s highly likely that a needle has never touched the disc.

Sleeve: NM

GORGEOUS, crisp sleeve still shines like new!! By far the nicest example I have ever seen of a first pressing sleeve. These heavy cardboard gatefold sleeves are notorious for having heavy ring wear...but this one has next to none!! Only the very faintest amount of wear is visible. The corners and opening edges are razor sharp! The almost always missing picture page booklet inside the gatefold is still tightly bound. This gatefold has probably only been opened a handful of times in its lifetime. The only flaw to mention is on the rear in the letter L of VOL, there is a small “From the collection of Bob Senn” stamp (most of the records in the collection have this stamp somewhere) but due to the glossiness of the slick, it has mostly rubbed off and is faint. See pics.

Disc: NM

STUNNING disc retains all of it’s original glossy sheen. There are absolutely no scratches or marks. Only the faintest, wispy superficial sleeve removal traces are visible when tilted under bright light. The labels have zero spindle traces or evidence of play. As I stated above, it is highly likely that this is unplayed.

PERFECT, unblemished white promotional labels have ZERO spindle traces or evidence of play. No writing or other marks.

Original company inner sleeve is included- unsplit, not torn or creased.

Grading System:

SS (Still Sealed)

Unopened records, still in original shrink wrap. In original manufactured condition unless otherwise noted (i.e. evidence of mildew or bent corners, etc.)

M (Mint)

The record and sleeve are in perfect, original condition. The record may have been played but will have no evidence of deterioration. (I will only use this grade on SEALED records that appear to be Mint as I believe any non-new, opened record cannot be truly called MINT.

NM (Near Mint)

A nearly perfect record. Any visible defects are of the type that "disappear" when the record is tilted under a strong light and they should not affect play. Sleeves in near mint condition will have no obvious signs of wear. Practically imperceptible ring wear may be allowed but no creases, seam-splits, or other easily detected flaws will be present.

EX (Excellent)

A very clean record. Near mint except for slight, superficial signs of wear. Sleeves in this condition may have marginal defects, but will not have significant creases or splits.

VG+ (Very Good Plus)

A well-cared-for record that is noticeably less than perfect, but defects are not visually or audibly distracting. Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or light scratches, but are still primarily clean. Sleeves may have some creases or minor ring wear, but should not be split.

VG (Very Good)

A used, reasonable copy to play. Many of the defects found in a VG+ copy will be more pronounced in VG condition. Surface noise may be evident and sleeves may look worn, but the record is still a decent copy.

G (Good)

A well-worn record that is still playable. Good does not necessarily mean "bad" but a record in this condition will have audible distractions and may have visible groove wear. Sleeves may have all manner of defects, but are still intact.

FA (Fair) and P (Poor)

These grades are for beat-up records. I will only sell records in these grades if they are extremely rare and sought-after
