BLACK SABBATH 1st Lp UK 1st PRESSING VERTIGO VO 6 847 903 VTY A PHILIPS RECORD PRODUCT on label NO CREDITS on cross in inner gatefold 1Y / 2Y Vinyl Grade; side1 VG- side 2 EX Gatefold Sleeve VG Original Swirl Inner VG
This is the very first pressing of Black Sabbath's classic debut album. The vinyl is a tale of 2 halves. Side 2 looks and sounds excellent with little to fault. Side 1 has a vivid scuff(see picture) near the label which only sounds lightly for the last 3 or 4 revolutions of the album. There is another surface mark/scuff towards the beginning of the record which doesn't sound. There are 2 feelable hairlines on track 1 and the start of track 2 which cause intermittent light clicks which are noticeable in the quieter parts and therefore cause a VG- grade only. Still a very enjoyable listen but not for the collector who wants only the best. The gatefold sleeve is the first without the credits within the cross and has no rips, tears or writing. There is a tape mark where tape was placed on the front and back of the first opening edge and also some edge wear and general surface wear to the black on the inside of the gatefold. Still a very presentable copy. The original swirl date coded inner (1070) is still in good condition with no rips or tears. There is some writing to one side and a printed stamp which is barely noticeable or readable. Still a decent copy of one of Sabbath's most collectable records; not for the purist collector but will satisfy many with less deep pockets.
