AN EARTH QUAKES COMING (IF YOU DON'T STRAIGHTEN UP) / IS IT ME YOU REALLY LOVE ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by BLACK VELVET produced by TYRONE ASHLEY for BLACKTOP records. Original 1st US pressing on the BLACK TOP RECORDS INC label (45-2001), from 1972. Killer obscure funk and soul double-sider out of New Jersey by a teenage female vocal trio with backing band. Sexy but hard hitting R&B influenced sister funk featuring counterpoint voices on AN EARTHQUAKES COMING with psychedelic fuzz intro / infectious B-boy drums / deep bassline / bugged-out guitars and unusual percussion / looped horn section etc. Great for DJs. Sweet with a beat soul on the IS IT ME YOU REALLY LOVE side with Curtis Mayfield style lazy wah wah and cool rhythms that build in intensity as the track progresses. A Dave Godin deep soul treasure. There was an inspired repress several years ago by the Truth & Soul label but the original single with booming production sound is the one you really need. Hot record ;) Very rare 45!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Flat edged, shiny styrene vinyl is in VG++ condition overall with hairlines (mostly to the inner and outer deadwax area). Booming production sound. Light surface noises. Rough paper labels have creasing wear and folding that seems to be quite normal on the original pressing. A couple of soft ticks to intro of 'Is It Me You Really Love' side. Record housed in plain white card sleeve. Very rare 45!!!
