** ULTRA-RARE ** 1971 AUSTRALIAN PROG-ROCK GEM

Product Description:

This is another '70s Australian band which I didn't see live until their later "Boppin'The Blues" phase; same lead singer (Neale Johns) totally different members; totally different sound! Avid music lovers and collectors agree that the album was produced at the height of their prog-rock prowess. The album features their hit single "Seasons Of Change" which achieved # 15 on the Australian Top 20 for 1971 (Source: Australian Encyclopaedia Of Rock).  Once again this was an outstanding discovery in an extensive collection that I'm selling. Don't miss the chance to secure this excellent copy.

I've rated the vinyl as NM (Near Mint). It doesn't have a visible mark or scuff on it. It's possible it has only been played once or twice as there is only the faintest sign of a spindle mark on the label.

The cover is a VG+ (Very Good +) rating as there is some ringwear on both the front and back covers as well as some discolouration along the top and right-hand sides of the back cover. The only other imperfection is on the front cover where it appears someone (possibly a child) has printed some (7) numbers on something whilst leaning on the cover, the impressions of which have come through. The impressions (all 5mm high) can be seen in the light at certain angles and are visible in photo # 3.

Biography:

Blackfeather was an Australian band founded in 1970 and led for most of its ten-year existence by singer Neale Johns. It began as a progressive rock unit, which can be heard on Mountains of Madness (1971), but later moved toward a simpler rock & roll style, resulting in the Australian #1 hit "Boppin' the Blues" and the 1974 Live album. The group's personnel was fluid in the second half of the '70s, especially after Johns moved to the U.K. to form Fingerprint. (allmusic)

Album Review:

Blackfeather began playing their unique style of guitar-powered psychedelic blues-rock in the Sydney area in 1970 and their energetic live performances soon catapulted them into the national spotlight. At The Mountains of Madness contains 6 rather long tracks, one of which is a 5-part suite that shows Blackfeather at its best. The album opens with a decidedly spacey intro and continues with sustained rhythms, guitar solos and time changes, a great album. (Amazon - edited)
