Description
RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW (1975) debut album on Polydor Records (MP 2502). Japanese pressing in gatefold cover. Autographed on the back cover by the late, great Cozy Powell, keyboardist Tony Carey, and bassist Jimmy Bain (who later founded the band Dio with singer Ronnie James Dio). The vinyl is in absolutely gorgeous shape—for all I know its previous owner, Akiko, may never have played the record. The jacket, too, is in great shape. The autographs were most likely obtained during Rainbow's tour of Japan in the winter of 1976, since the album is the Japanese pressing and Jimmy Bain wrote a dedication "Lots of Love to Akiko", Cozy Powell (RIP) wrote "Best Wishes" and Tony Carey amended his signature with a stylized rainbow graphic (see photo). Both Bain and Carey were out of the line-up upon the completion of the tour, which probably makes a Japanese copy of the LP with these three signatures a rare thing outside of Japan. I purchased the album many years ago from a record shop in Upstate New York. Though I have no provenance, I have no reason to believe these signatures aren't authentic. I figure that if someone would go to the trouble of faking the autographs they would have included Blackmore and Dio! I wish I knew the whole story of this record and who the mysterious Akiko might be. Alas, it's time for someone else to give this marvelous artifact a new home. NO RESERVE.
