Blancmange melded a unique sound, bringing together electronic and eastern influences with a distinct dance floor sensibility. The resulting album, ‘Happy Families’, with its mixture of theatricality and sincerity won them a legion of fans. Neil refers to the new versions on this vinyl LP, which include fan favourites ‘I Can’t Explain’, ‘Waves’ ‘Feel Me’ and the Top 10 hit ‘Living On The Ceiling’ – as an “interpretation”. “I just wanted to approach the songs using today’s technology,” he says. “Every time we perform it’s a different interpretation. So rather than just dust off the old songs, I wanted to bring something fresh to the project and make it a contemporary reworking rather than an exact imitation.” From their origins making experimental synth wave, to the chart-topping yet cool and credible hits, Blancmange were at the very heart of 1980s club culture, from support slots with Grace Jones, to killer 12” remixes by the likes of John Luongo. Their tracks were on regular rotation in sweaty nightclubs from New York, to Berlin to London, forming part of sets reflecting the open minded “as long as it moves the floor” policy of the time, that would see their records blended seamlessly with disco, post punk, EBM, new beat and early house. Their music also sat with equal comfort alongside both the synth pop of piers OMD or Human League and leftfield cult figures like Cabaret Voltaire or XTC and was undoubtedly popular with many of the leading electronic music pioneers worldwide. Predating the acid house explosion and the many subsequent sub genres, Blancmange’s music is a key cornerstone in the musical landscape that shaped both the original electronic music boom and its huge lasting legacy. Their influence on the past few years’ slew of electro revivalists like La Roux, Hot Chip and Metronomy has been well documented, but of equal note is the likelihood that anyone partying from Dalston, Peckham, Brixton and beyond in recent times is likely to have heard Blancmange tracks fitting perfectly into sets by hip party selectors proffering cold wave, Balearic, electronic oddities, cosmic disco, house and even techno. Shipping
Your item will be safely packaged in a bespoke vinyl mailer. We offer automatic postage discounts (where prices are applied) on multiple purchases. We dispatch Monday to Friday - orders placed by 12 noon will usually be dispatched the same day. Orders placed after 12 noon, or at the weekend, will be dispatched on the next working day.
Most vinyl items come from the manufacturer in a shrink wrap seal. We take immense care in the packing process to protect the seal from any stress. However, the seal is fragile and may, from time to time, become detached. We cannot accept any responsibility for this happening in the transportation process and nor can we accept returns on the basis of the seal breaking.
On rare occasions vinyl items are manufactured and shipped without a shrink wrap seal. In these circumstances we will place the item in a bespoke vinyl protector to reduce the risk of any damage to the product during packaging and transportation.

PRE-SALE ORDERS (where applicable):
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pre-sale orders are subject to manufacturers/distributors supply and how they determine to distribute this supply. Occasionally the record labels or distributors will have to cut orders if the supply from the manufacturer is outstripped by the demand for the product. This is completely outside of our control and may mean that we will also have to cut our orders. Should this occur you will be informed and refunded immediately. In such circumstances we will operate on a first come, first served basis; we will also cut any multiple orders to single orders in order to ensure, inasfar as we can that everyone gets at least one copy of the title. Occasionally there is a delay in the manufacturing process that may delay your delivery; if this should happen then we will endeavour to keep you fully informed of the progress of your item.
Our pre-sale listings use the marketing information and image packs supplied to us. At times the design of the packaging or colour of the vinyl, tracklisting etc may be amended by the record label after the marketing information has been sent out. We are often not informed of such amendments and, therefore, bear no responsibility and cannot offer a refund on the basis of such amendments.
Where the item listed is a Pre-Order, the release date is clearly stated within the eBay listing. In the case of a Pre-order, the delivery timescales and delivery dates calculated and shown on eBay, are not precise, and should be ignored. We use our best endeavours to get the item to you on, or shortly after, the release date, however, the speed of the Royal Mail is beyond our control.
Returns
We want you to be happy with your purchase. However, if it is not suitable for any reason, we are happy to refund your purchase providing it is:
- Returned within 14 days of receiving your order
- It is in original undamaged packaging with all tags intact
- The product is in the same condition as how you received it
- You have a statutory duty to take reasonable care of our goods whilst they are in your possession and during transit. We cannot accept liability for goods that get lost or damaged when they are returned, and request that you ask the Post Office to stamp the Proof of Posting label when returning products by post.
