BLEY-PEACOCK SYNTHESISER SHOW – Revenge “The Bigger The Love The Greater The Hate” ORIG Polydor LP // 2425 043 (UK, Stereo, 1972)
A very rare album here, in its original UK press, effectively Annette Peacock’s first solo album and what an incredible LP it is. Parts free Jazz, parts experimental electronica, it is peppered throughout with ‘punk’ attitude and razor sharp, in-your-face ‘treated’ vocal delivery. Ahead of its time for sure, it features the original version of ‘I’m The One’ – split here into 2 tracks with the ‘Climbing Aspirations’ intro. This copy has very evident signs of use and is by no means mint but plays pretty well without sticks or jumps.
Recorded live by Annette Peacock and Paul Bley on the 6 April 1969, 2 June 1969 and 3 November 1969 at the Philharmonic Hall, Lincoln Center except "Mr. Joy" and "I Belong To A World That's Destroying Itself" which were recorded at Century Sound Studios. The live tracks were mixed by David Baker and Paul Berkowitz, the studio tracks were mixed by Brooks Arthur.
The fully laminated single format sleeve is in VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition. No rips, tears, splits or writing but an established heavy crease to the front top left. This has resulted in laminate lift (but no splits) and bubbling to this area and some of the spine edge. Couple of other lighter creases both front and rear and some slight toning to the rear panel. All edges and the spine are generally fine without rubs or splits.
The labels are fine NO writing, tears, stickers or residue. Only moderate spindle evidence around the centre hole. Nice pair of these vintage Polydors.
The vinyl shows quite a few marks to both sides. Visually it grades somewhere between G (Good) and VG- (Very Good Minus) condition. That is NOT to say it is trashed. There are several light and fine hairlines, quite a bit of surface scuffing to Side 2 particularly and one short, feelable mark at the beginning of Side 1.
IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays very satisfactorily. There are some soft ticks and clicks here and there and light crackle in quieter passages (not generally intrusive but worse towards the end of Side 2). There are NO loud pops and NO distortion (other than what was intended!). NO sticking or jumps anywhere.
Rare opportunity to grab this seldom offered avant landmark. If you’re not familiar with Annette’s work it will surely astonish…
No reserve.
