A beautiful condition copy, with gleaming vinyl and superb stereo audio reproduction, of this increasingly rare and sought after 1969 UK earliest 1st press rock gem, with earliest A1, B1 vinyl matrix numbers on the Polydor record label, STEREO, 583059

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   583059  A//1  420  with stampers "1 2" and "1 4" at 3 o'clock and 3.30 o'clock respectively

Side 2   583059  B//1  420  with stampers "1", "1 4" and "1 5" at 2 o'clock, 2.30 o'clock, and 3 o'clock respectively

Just look at these mother stampers, each with "1" at the beginning indicating an extremely early pressing!

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and 1st press heavy duty vinyl is excellent plus (EX+). In normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as in gleaming, perfect and unmarked condition with a beautiful jet black sheen, and even with close scrutiny under a bright light it is only possible to identify just a couple of lightest of light paper scuff marks and wispiest of wispy small hairlines. Clearly this record has been very sparingly played (the wonderful sound quality supports this view) and it is hard to believe that this vinyl is now 51 years old. Remarkable!

The condition of the labels is also excellent plus (EX+). Gorgeous condition labels : earliest 1st press smooth labels with the black text, iconic Polydor logo, and red matt background each in pristine condition. If you look very closely it is just possible to make out x5 extremely faint, small spindle trails on the side 1 label, and on the side 2 label there are none.

The condition of the outside non-laminated sleeve is very good (VG). Each edge is firm but there is mild scuffing on each, including the corners which do nevertheless remain well defined right angles (though some rubbing on each is clearly visible). There is no cardboard creasing though there are x8 1-2 cm very light surface crease marks adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side. The spine itself is also firm but there is some mild scuffing on each edge of the spine and towards the very top and bottom of the spine also. The opening sides are firm with no fraying or feathering and although there are a couple of very light marks on the reverse side the colours/artwork/text all remain in excellent condition with great clarity. The inside of the gatefold has no doodles or unwanted writing and overall is a solid very good with some mild age discolouration adjacent to the edges and along the interior of the spine.

The quality of the audio is excellent+ (EX+). Actually, the sound quality is superb...great tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. There are no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks or clicks; and just the hint of some very, very light background crackle at the beginning of side 2 and even this is negligible. Every track still makes for a great listen.

Comes with original poly lined "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" inner sleeve with  "British Patent No..." and "Made in England" text with no rips or no splits, but there is some mild age discolouration, a few small light brown marks, and some very minor creasing in the corners but nevertheless remaining fully functional. Note that I always use a new, plain white replacement inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original.

In summary a lovely condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1969 UK very first 1st press rock gem with the wonderful condition of the vinyl and terrific audio quality being the highlights (the gatefold sleeve grading is a slightly disappointing very good) - now becoming difficult to find 1st pressing copies and the whole LP remains a great listen.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
