Description
This item came from our personal collection
Offered for sale is an original, still sealed copy of the limited-edition, numbered high quality half speed mastered pressing of the only album by Blind Faith, pressed by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs in 1989.
This release is part of a limited-edition series by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, a company that sought to make records that sounded better than the mass-produced offerings of the major record labels. Every title ever issued by Mobile Fidelity is collectible in its own right; their pressings from 1978 through 1989 were pressed in Japan by JVC on their proprietary Super Vinyl, an exceptionally resilient, dead-quiet vinyl compound. These records were mastered at half speed; both the tape and the cutting lathe were run at half the normal speed, allowing the cutting head to cut a more accurate groove in the acetate. The finished product featured dead-quiet vinyl, with improved dynamics, better imaging, and tighter bass. By their very nature, all of Mobile Fidelity's titles were limited-edition pressings, and Blind Faith was limited to 5000 numbered copies. The album sold out in a matter of just a few months.
Blind Faith was an early supergroup featuring Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker of Cream, Steve Winwood of Traffic and Rick Grech of Family (and later of Traffic, as well.) Like many supergroups, they burned brightly but briefly, and they released only a single studio album before breaking up. The album sold well, but for various reasons, the band didn't release a follow up album. Instead, Eric Clapton went on to form Derek and the Dominoes, Steve Winwood went back to Traffic, and Ginger Baker formed Air Force.
The album is highly regarded; All Music had this to say:
Blind Faith's first and last album, more than 30 years old and counting, remains one of the jewels of the Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and Ginger Baker catalogs, despite the crash-and-burn history of the band itself, which scarcely lasted six months. As much a follow-up to Traffic's self-titled second album as it is to Cream's final output, it merges the soulful blues of the former with the heavy riffing and outsized song lengths of the latter for a very compelling sound unique to this band. Unfortunately, the group was never that together as a band and evidently had just the 42 minutes of new music here ready to tour behind.
THE RECORD
The record is still sealed and is believe to be perfectly mint. It's pressed on high-quality JVC Super Vinyl, which the label quit using just a short time after this release. Super Vinyl is dead-quiet and holds up exceptionally well with repeated play. This record has a reputation as sounding terrific.
THE COVER
The cover is still sealed in the original loose wrap with the easy-tear perforations for opening. It's in mint condition, with no issues whatsoever. The wrap is fully intact, and there's a small sticker on the back cover that says “Limited Edition 0265” (of 5000 copies.) We're showing the back cover only as eBay isn't too fond of the front cover image for this album. We suspect that you know what the cover looks like.

We purchased this copy directly from MFSL when the album was first released, and it's the last copy we have from what was, at one time, a small stack of low-numbered copies. If you're looking for a great copy of a great record in terrific condition, you'll have a hard time beating this one.
