Blind Lemon Jefferson, Penitentiary Blues
1955 UK pressed London Records "Origins of Jazz" series mono 10" vinyl LP, AL 3546.
Green labels with gold print.
Vinyl visually glossy but with a number of scuff marks and light scratches, some more obviously visible. There are also some greyish patina marks.
Play grades a conservative G. It is sometimes difficult with pre-war blues transfers to separate any background noise from noise which is inherent in the recordings. However, to my memory the majority of Lemon's output is pretty clean. There is some soft to mid-level crackle and ticks here and there, but not to an extent which makes listening unpleasant. There are a very few instances of consecutive ticks but infrequently so and only for very short periods.
Labels are clean and unmarked with no obvious spindle wear.
Original poly inner sleeve is sound.
External fully laminated sleeve is generally bright and clean with just light toning to rear panel. There is a two inch split to bottom right hand corner at entry side with a small diagonal crease to same corner. There is significant tearing damage to the bottom rear, see photo. There are also a couple of tears to the rear entry side. There is some loss to the rear bottom backflap at left hand corner.
