BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON LP (SELF-TITLED) (Folkways Records FS 3585) Released 1957.
Original silver & blue Deep Groove Folkways label. Contains the excellent 10-page illustrated booklet as well as a Folkways printed advertising brochure. Annotated by Sam Charters, who also recorded this album in New Orleans & Texas. A veritable museum piece: Old-style Folkways wrap-around outer jacket & thick quality wax. An ear insignia is stamped in the dead wax, marking this as a first pressing. Our copy came from the original owner, who took very good care of these albums. We will be listing more great blues rarities from this collection shortly. US mono pressing with 117 W. 46th St. address on label. This copy has great visual appeal. The cover design is by Ernest York, who contributes more drawings for the booklet. Very fine reflective sheen on the grooves inside a nicely-preserved cover. Pressed on a thick heavy slab of wax (feels like 200 grams) with sturdy, high-quality cover. (Etched matrix: "FS 3585 A/B LW").
COVER - VERY GOOD PLUS
Cover has no seam splits, tape, ink spills, puncture holes, writing, bubbles or stickers. No ring wear. Flat cover with no bends, creases, waves, ripples or bowing. Small amount of corner banging. No speckling. Much of these scuff marks can be removed with an eraser. I sure wish I had one right now! Booklet is in excellent condition with no creases or any other blemishes. Label looks quite nice: free of stains, marks, scuffs, cuts & writing. Sharp-cut hole with hardly any faint transparent spindle brushings.
DISC - NEAR MINT
No scratches, skips, streaking, warping or residue on the disc or dead wax. A brief hairline fleck or two and a shallow, inaudible pit (one sixteenth of an inch). The disc still exudes a nice surface sheen. Free of chips, cracks & warping. This thick platter holds its sound better than a cheaper modern pressing.
