BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON sealed PRAISE GOD I'M SATISFIED 180 Gram Yazoo Records LP
Willie Johnson's hard-scrabble life began when, during an all too uncommon family fight, his stepmother threw lye water at his father, but the lye splashed into little Willies eyes, blinding him.

Although recognized as one of the Delta's greatest bottleneck slide guitarists, Johnson didn't want to be a bluesman. He had a passion for the Bible, and began singing the gospel and interpreting Negro spirituals. As a Baptist preacher he brought his sermons and music to the street.  

During a three-year period, he recorded only a total of 30 songs. Many became gospel-blues classics, including Jesus Make up My Dying Bed, God Don't Never Change, and his most famous, Dark Was the Night -- Cold Was the Ground about the crucifixion of Christ.

In 1947, the Johnson home burned to the ground. Approximately one week after the fire, Willie caught pneumonia and died in the ashes of his former home.

This Stereo pressing is a 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl Collectors version of that original recording session.
