GRAB YOURSELF A PIECE OF UK PUNK/Oi HISTORY--THIS BAND HAD SUCH A MASSIVE INFLUENCE ON THE PUNK/Oi MOVEMENT.

Blitz was a street punk band from New Mills, Derbyshire, England. They had success in the United Kingdom indie charts in the early 1980s.

Comprised of both punk and skinhead members, they were enthusiastically championed by Sounds magazine writer Garry Bushell. Although considered an important Oi! band, the band members simply described themselves as a punk band. Their song "Someone's Gonna Die" was covered by Rancid on the Radio Radio Radio EP. Another Blitz song, "Warriors", was covered by The Distillers and Judge. The band Oxymoron has also covered the Blitz song "New Age". Decades after the original Blitz lineup split, guitarist/songwriter Alan "Nidge" Miller recruited new members and performed concerts under the band's name. On February 10, 2007, Miller was struck by a car and died on impact after walking on to a freeway after a show in Austin Texas

Carl Fisher - Vocals / Nidge Miller - Guitar, Neil McLennan (Mackie) - Bass, Charlie Howe - Drums

Formed in 1980 in New Mills, Blitz were the label's first signing. Their debut release, a four track EP, was recorded very quickly, as were most singles on the label. The first pressing of 1000 copies were sold in a few days, mainly by mail order. A subsequent distribution deal with Rough Trade and Pinnacle led to sales of over 20,000 copies. Initial copies were all hand stamped as the label thought they would only sell 1000! Their debut album even hit the National charts! The band later became one of the most influential Punk bands of all time with numerous late 90's Punk bands covering their songs. Tragically, Nidge died in a road incident in Austin, Texas in February 2007 after a gig whilst touring with his reformed band.
