The band was formed in Newport in 1967 by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Denyer, drummer Les Hicks, bassist/organist Richard Hopkins and guitarist/sitar player Gareth Johnson.[1][2]The band was named after Bob Dylan's 1966 album of the same name.
In 1968 the quartet left Wales for London, and was joined by guitarist Simon Lawrence, playing clubs such as Middle Earth and appearing on the BBC TV series How Late It Is.[1]Signing to Pye Records, they released their first album, Contrasts, produced by Barry Murray, in 1969. The album included the Robin Williamson covers "No Sleep Blues" and "I Need My Friend", and a cover of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby". That summer they appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival.
1970's Rebirth was released on Ember Records after a personnel change that saw Ralph Denyer joining Aquila and replaced by school friend David Thomas. Thomas' introduction gave the band a tougher, rock-orientated sound. Their second album included Moody Blues-styled ballads ("Castles In The Sky"), progressive rock songs ("You'll Never Know Me/Release") and fuzz-guitar based rockers ("November").
In 1971 Richard Hopkins left and was replaced by Graham Davis. Blonde on Blonde's final album Reflections on a Life was released by Ember Records in 1971, but the band achieved only modest commercial success. They disbanded in early 1972.
Vinyl: VG+ to EX. Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen. There are a couple of the usual sleeve retraction paper traces only visible under a strong light. There are a couple of very shallow hairlines, nothing nasty or deep. Beautiful labels and here it can be seen that the LP has been clearly looked after by a careful owner.
Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely any surface noise. A couple of low level ticks were audible on side 1. This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds great and plays to a high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX for audio - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO clicks.

Gatefold Sleeve: VG. Extremely hard to find this sleeve without any issues, especially because the vinyl has to be inserted from the inside centre. For this reason these style sleeves nearly always end up with tears, like this one as well with centre tears to the bottom and the top on the seam (visible on pictures 8 and 9). The inner flipbacks are intact but the corners have wear. Colours are rich and this sleeve benefits from being outside laminated. If a fully intact excellent sleeve is very important to you then this may not be your copy. If you, however, can cope with a bit of vintage wear it is a real nice album.
