The Columbia Records' Mastersound half-speed audiophile vinyl pressings of the late 1970's and early 1980's (there was only a handful of released titles) were not only audiophile masterpieces and connoisseur delights, they have become true pieces of audio history and its lore. These majestic recordings received an intense, meticulous and laborious treatment like very few other recordings in the entire history of the recorded sound. They are characterized by the massively extended dynamic and frequency range, mastering from the very first generation of original master tapes, almost compulsive attention paid to the detail and integrity of the pressing, the highest quality of the material and near-maniacal attention paid to the fine sonic detail and audio craftsmanship. To this day, many of these recordings remain unsurpassed, delivering music reproduction as close to the actual recording session as possible, without any loss of musical information inherent in the standard practice of mastering from the inferior "production" copies.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire this great album in its finest audio format, no longer in print, and no longer easily obtainable.

***

This is the album which - for many people - introduced Rock to Jazz and vice versa (and Blood, Sweat and Tears to the world public as a potent force to be reckoned with). Unlike the subsequent BS+T albums, Al Kooper plays a critical role on this one, and what a role it is: you haven't heard a blues ballad unless and until you hear "I love you more than you'll ever know", a paean to a lost love, and the finest blues number EVER penned by the white man. The sound quality will leave you begging for more. The material on this album aged more gracefully than most of the other so-called jazz-rock albums (Chicago; Chase, etc). The most intriguing aspect of the album is its sequencing; namely, the songs, which range from BS&T’s version of Tim Buckley's "Morning Glory" (Later covered by Linda Ronstadt as "Hobo"), Randy Newman's "Just one smile" and Carole King's "So much love" mingle with a variety of other, vigorous and rocking B,S & T originals, to shape an album which flows seamlessly and effortlessly and operates like a conceptual album, in which each part plays its own, specific, unique role. This may be your last chance to own this classic album in its clearest, original, most coveted form. Track listing: Overture - I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know - Morning Glory - My Days Are Numbered - Without Her - Just One Smile - I Can't Quit Her - Meagan's Gypsy Eyes - Somethin' Goin' On - House In The Country - Modern Adventures Of Plato, Diogenes & Freud, The - So Much Love / Underture

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record comes in a hi-grade MFSL-style PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(d)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)           The album comes with its original Mastersound insert

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
