HAND ON heart this happens to be one of my favourite albums of all time. Yes, an obscure Scottish quartet who's name would later go on to be linked with an awful boy band in the 90's. However, this Blue were superbly brilliant - a marvellous unit with a keen ear for great songs, delicate harmonies and just the right amount of gritty countryfried rock.
Similar in sound and presentation to the great Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Blue's modus operandi was very much cut from the same cloth in so much as they played urbane country rock with a gritty, some might say dirty, rural vibe. 'Lonesome' is a beautifully, possibly accidental, simple song built on accoustic guitars, a simple beat and the tight harmonies of all four members. It should have been a hit single, but if it had, I'm sure the band would have sabotaged their success rather than play to the man. Best track is 'Sad Sunday', a cut that wouldn't have sounded out of place of CSN&Y's 'Deja Vu' masterpiece - a thick electric rockin' groove supporting magnificient guitar work (think Stephen Stills) and harmonies from heaven. This track should be compulsory listening.
Recorded at Alembic Studios in San Francisco and produced by Elliot Mazer...so you know you're in good hands!
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Cover: Again, no signs of use. Housed in a beautifully designed textured cover - retains full printers bloom. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Fantastic straight & stiff spine. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 41 years after release. Grades as shop fresh MINT!
