BLUE MOUNTAIN EAGLE s/t TOP 1970 Psych Rock Original M-
1970/USA/Atco SD 33-324….. here’s a clean original pressing of this scarce Psych lp. Lots of swirling organ and fuzz on this one. The cover is in strong VG++ condition, it has a tiny saw cut near top of spine, dinged/creased lower right corner, slight shelf wear, otherwise the cover is solid and clean with no splits. The vinyl is in M- condition and looks Unplayed! Perfect Clean labels have no spindle marks. A gorgeous keeper copy of this scarce lp. Please check my auctions for other psych, prog, and rock lp’s. You'd half expect this supergroup's self-titled debut album -- recorded at Wally Heider's recording studios in L.A. with producer Bill Halverson (Crosby, Stills & Nash, Freddie King) -- to have made a bigger splash. Unfortunately, after landing in record store bins in the spring of 1970, Blue Mountain Eagle failed to generate much interest among the audience it was intended for. The album really doesn't have a bad track and fans of bands like Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, and the Flying Burrito Brothers -- not to mention to occasional heavy-handed vibe of bands like Steppenwolf -- are encouraged to seek out a copy. Each member of the group gets his own turn on lead vocals. The leadoff track, Joey Newman's "Love Is Here," kicks off with a nice fuzz guitar and soaring vocals, with Newman and Bob Jones trading blistering licks. Shortly after the release of this album, in May 1970, bassist Randy Fuller left the group to join Dewey Martin. Atlantic CEO (then Atco president) Ahmet Ertegun (who was reportedly a fan of Fuller's lone songwriting contribution, "Sweet Mama") tried to persuade Fuller to sign a solo deal and write songs for other Atlantic-related projects, but Fuller declined Ertegun's invitation. The rest of the band continued recording -- there are rumors of enough material for a second album -- but broke up soon thereafter, and their surviving statement as a band quickly vanished without further notice.
GRADING
MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.
M- or Mint Minus, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.
EXCELLENT: still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.
VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
