LABEL Blue Note CATALOG # 2 ARTIST Meade Lux Lewis SIDE A Boogie Woogie Stomp SIDE B Boogie Woogie Blues INFO super rare 2nd ever (1939) Blue Note release with an off-color label - As I understand the story, the pressing plant misunderstood Alfred Lion color instructions and instead of a BLUE and YELLOW label, a PINK label was pressed - this is only on a few of issues #1 and # 2 and was shortly corrected by Lions - the majority are on the Blue-Yellow label both being offered for sale this week. The first Blue Note releases years before they focused on Be Bop were focused on Blues piano and boogie woogie - this copy comes from the original owner who purchased it in 1939 at a store near Boston - trumpeter George Poor.
