LEE MORGAN

SEARCH FOR THE NEW LAND

BLUE NOTE 84169

liberty label (see photo back cover) ; yet, still RUDY VAN GELDER stamped dead wax for quality fidelity in true STEREO ( engraved in deadwax STEREO) plays " quiet" no crackle or pops on my system; seminal jazz date will hardbop jazz lineup!!!!

Following the surprise crossover/pop success of "The Sidewinder", Lee Morgan indulged his creative side on this album,

resulting in one of the most experimental sets of his career. Dominated by the over fifteen minute long title track, a slow-

simmering Post-Bop Magnum Opus that is by far the most daring track in Morgan's oeuvre, it begins with one of several

mystical, almost psychedelic flourishes followed by a throbbing rhythmic theme, which introduces a new solo from Shorter,

Morgan or Green each time it is repeated. From there, a brief detour is taken back into pure Hard Bop mode with the pleasant

but otherwise fairly forgettable "The Joker", before launching into "Mr. Kenyatta", a Latin/Soul-tinged rave-up reminiscent of

both Kenny Dorham and Horace Silver, which features some adventurous solos by Shorter, Green, Hancock and Morgan,

followed by the graceful ballad "Melancholee", which subtly echoes the melodic theme of the title track in its horn lines. The

album's closer, "Morgan the Pirate" ends things on a hopeful note, its upbeat tone seemingly signifying that the search

referenced in the album's title was not one undertaken in vain. [ credit from online review]

VINYL: EXCELLENT +

Matrix Pressing #BNST 84169

excellent + deep resonance; quality pressing and audiophile like playback on my vintage Thorens system

COVER: NM remains in original cellophane shrink; spine label readable and straight -

cover looks as though one just picked it up from a " record store" condition!!

The vinyl is in excellent condition showing under light only superficial lines from sleave spindle holes tight: seems unmarked; clean labels nice VINYL:  Plays with big, bold signature playback pressing sound)))))) fills the room.
