Carl Perkins was one of the five brightest lights of rockabilly to come out of Sun Records and this record of "Blue Suede Shoes" sold well enough that it kept the lights on for many other acts over at Sun Records.

Carl tells the story of how he wrote the song out on an old paper bag and it simply wrote itself. Once he released it and it was starting to hit, there was a temptation for Elvis Presley to cover it immediately, but Elvis, being an old friend of Carl's, let his original version run its course for a month before he brought out his version, and even then he didn't let it be a single.

Even so, Elvis' version got to #20 in the nation, and Carl's went all the way to #2.

This is a Sun Records 45 and it's flipped with another rockabilly classic, "Honey Don't."
