Description

HERE'S a record from the dawn of the Jazz Age!  From 1919, it's RECTOR'S JAZZ BAND. Closely following the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, they do a neat and lively cover of "BLUIN' THE BLUES," and the new sensation, "JAZZOLA."

This must be an exceedingly scarce disc!  There's no entry for it in any edition of Brian Rust's Jazz Records, nor is it mentioned anywhere on the internet.  Earl Fuller's Rector's Novelty Band is noted, of course, but not THIS.

Rector's was a first-class restaurant in Manhattan, catering to the carriage trade. It opened in 1899, and lasted until 1919, the date of this record.  Only in the last couple of years of its existence (1918-1919), out of desperation, did Rector's go in for music, which was attracting people in droves to Reisenweber's just up the street.  To compete, Rector's first hired Earl Fuller, then as the place was going down, evidently, these fellahs.  No documentation! No personnel!  All we have is this music.

This original 1919 Globe K-03 is in lovely E- condition.

 *****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
