  Bob Downes Open Music – Hells Angels     Once one of England’s top avant-garde jazz flautists, Bob Downes (born Robert George Downes) has maintained a low profile since relocating to Europe in the late 1980s. Although he released a series of impressive albums in the mid-70s, he has recorded very little since. Able to play more than 25 instruments, he has focused primarily on flute, piano, and percussion. His albums featured a wide array of supportive players. His first three albums – Open Music, Electric City, and Deep Down Heavy – featured the accompaniment of rock guitarist, Chris Spedding, while his subsequent efforts on his own private label – Diversions in 1973, Episodes at 4 am in 1974, and Hells Angels in 1975 – have a more experimental feel to them. Hells Angels features Bob Downes (voice, saxophone and flute); Laurie Baker (synthesizer); Jeff Clyne (bass); Barry Guy, Harry Miller and Herbie Flowers (double bass); Dennis Smith and John Stevens (drums); Ray Russell (guitar); Dave Brooks, Don Fay and Tony Roberts (saxophone); Henry Lowther and Mark Charig (trumpet) and Harry Beckett (trumpet and flugelhorn).

The album is on Openian Records, BDOM 003. Matrix side one: BDOM 003-A1 and LYN 2983 (written). Matrix side two: BDOM 003-B1 and LYN 2984 (written).
UK pressing. Stereo.
Condition: (as Record Collector's grading system. If I see a mark it will be mentioned however light/small, apart from the usual very light paper scuffs/marks - usually caused by record being removed from the inner sleeve, which appear on nearly all old records and which are only visible under strong light)
Vinyl side 1: excellent (a few very light superficial marks can be seen under bright light that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Vinyl side 2: excellent (a few very light superficial marks can be seen under bright light that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Cover (fully laminated): excellent (very small bit of laminate lift front left near top edge, price scratched out on back bottom right - see photos below).
The record plays great with no jumps, skips or clicks and minimal crackle.
I have tried to give my honest opinion as to the condition. I will give a complete refund to the buyer if they are not happy with the record.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM:
MINT: I very rarely use the mint grade. Only records that are still sealed or records that even under the strongest of lights are completely unmarked. Also covers that are unmarked/uncreased in any way and still look brand new.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
