BOB DYLAN 'BLONDE ON BLONDE' DOUBLE L.P. (MONO STEREO CANADIAN EARLY MIX WITH SOME SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES TO THE FINAL RELEASED VERSON - SEE BELOW) VERY GOOD CONDITION. CATALOGUE NUMBER: C2L41 MATRIX NUMBERS: Side 1 - XLP113761-1A, Side 2 - XLP113762-1A, Side 3 - XLP113763-1A, Side 4 - XLP113764-1A.
This is a true Dylan rarity. It is an early mono mix with some crucial differences to the finally released mono pressing.
Headline news: 'Most Likely You Go Your Way' is a very different mix and one I'd never heard before. Both the normal mono mix and the stereo (I compared both) have a rather dominant lead guitar. This is virtually inaudible in the Canadian mono. In its place, the 'marching' drum beat strides out front, with the organ higher in the mix as well. I think I prefer this to the normal mix actually!
Other differences: 'Leopard-skin PBH' has the piano and bass higher in the mix, with Bob's lead electric guitar lower down. Again, this differs from the mono I have and the stereo.
On 'Fourth Time Around' the organ is very high in the mix; on the mono I have it is virtually inaudible. However this mix is similar to the UK stereo mix (though still with the organ more prominant, to my ears). The overall sound is less cluttered than the other mixes on this song. The fade out is much sooner than on the stereo mix; maybe 5 or 6 seconds.
In 'Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands' there is a lyric mistake. Bob sings "...child of the hoodlum wrapped up in your arms; How could they ever have (fluff) - aded you". On the other mixes you can hear the splice where Bob drops in a clear-as-crystal "...have persuaded you".
The inside of the gatefold sleeve is pasted on the heavy card cover, and the records have plain white sleeves. This release has the Claudia Cardinale picture on the inside gatefold and "Memphis Blues Again" on both the sleeve and the Side 2 label.
The sleeve has some seam-splits and is a little tatty but the playing surfaces are excellent and play superbly with minimal background noise. It goes without saying that this is a very special and significant item and one that any Dylan enthusiast will be excited about.
