Rarity: Quite scarce in mono and in the US it was the final Dylan to make the single channel format and is very rare indeed with minimal numbers pressed. Also clean copies are even harder to find, this one looks hardly played and sounds superb.

Brief Info: Another brilliant album, his eighth, issued around 18 months after the masterpiece that was ‘Blonde on Blonde’. Between times he has been recovering from a major motorcycle accident and quite how the man could follow the previous album with something almost as good was an incredible achievement. With sparse instrumentation and totally wonderful songs, this stands high in his impressively long catalogue. With US mono versions very difficult to track down, a rarer chance for all to hear on this quite elusive UK mono cut version.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a single format with front lamination that covers all the edge folds. Printed and made in England by the Upton Printing Group and is the genuine mono cover with NO stereo references.

Lamination & Front: A really fantastic front with genuine freshness and fine looks. The laminate is shiny and very clear and fully adhered with no lifting or blisters. Any creases are very few, faint and barely show, these only on the spine edge. Minimal traces of any dulling and any surface marks or blemishes are few, fine and barely even show.

Cover Back: Little short of as made: this is really lovely, the only small mark worthy of mention is near the bottom left corner. No ringwear, creasing and very clean with any ageing minimal.

Top & Bottom Edges: Both unworn, the laminate solid, smooth with no scuffs to the fingertips.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with no wear and guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Practically as made: Solid, straight with any compression faint and minor. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate that remains fresh and crystal clear. The ends are tapered in manufacture.

Corners: Rarely can I state four 40-year-old+ corners retain near mint shape and lack wear. These are practically as sharp and pointed as when issued.

Cover Summary: An outstanding all-round example of this rare late 60’s mono cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please most collectors.

The Inner: MINT: yes true, this supreme CBS inner gives no clues to it’s great age. A stunning vintage unlined promotional inner that will rarely be found better. The window is pristine and all edges are unsplit. No creasing worthy of note or grubbiness and looking in superb shape with only minimal traces of seam glue darkening on the rear.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-): and maybe even harsh at that. At this later era for the mono format, most who purchased them did so to play on the appropriate equipment. Many that are seen show the fact all to well with matching very disappointing sound. Many shows many deep, penetrating scratches, dulled and grimy fingermarked laden surfaces and grubby spindle-ridden labels. Chalk and cheese, this has nothing like that. This copy without any doubt has hardly even been played. A superb visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. Any surface trace marks are minuscule, faint and few only just about detectable with critical viewing under bright light. How many records this great age will have zero marks if scrutinised closely enough? - let’s be honest. This beauty should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This much rarer mono record plays up to it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. The songs play beautifully with little at all unwanted. The odd sporadic tick or two is near impossible to avoid on the quieter albums, simply remember this is a 42-year-old mono record, how many will ever play without the odd light reminder what you actually listening too? Without any doubt a record that has avoided all the perils of blunt, chipped piledriver mono stylus from the distant past. This has the sheen and lustre of a very little handled record. We all know what so many of these single-channel records look and sound like these days. Few copies will outperform this very early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp and devoid of ‘mono noise’. I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and mainly carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This very late mono record will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional thick boxes (NOT Mailers or Cruciforms, these do not offer maximum protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
