Bob Dylan - The Basement Tape LP. 130gram Basic Black, 12" Vinyl. Mono. Record Store Day 2015 Exclusive. Edition limited to 2500 copies; this is #294, hand numbered (see pic).
Hand Stamped Autograph by Garth Hudson (so not actually signed; from what I understand only the more expensive Pink 200 gram edition was actually signed). Garth Hudson was the incredible keyboardist for THE BAND and the recorder of the basement tapes.
This release seeks to recreate the British publisher's demo that was sent out in 1968 to interest other artists in recording these new Bob Dylan songs. This resulted in releases such as The Byrds' "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" and "Nothing Was Delivered," Fairport Convention's "Million Dollar Bash," Manfred Mann's "The Mighty Quinn" among others. Also contains early versions of songs made famous by Dylan and The Band: "I Shall Be Released," "This Wheel's On Fire," and "Tears Of Rage."
Comes with a insert/copy of the Rolling Stone article "The Missing Dylan Album" in which Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner editorializes for the release of the tapes.
This copy, #294 is NEW, never played. It was only opened to determine the #, to make sure it contained all it was supposed to, and to take pictures. Comes in a clear LP sleeve. Absolutely as new.
While I love the complete multi disc CD version of The Basement Tapes, this LP reminds me of just how powerful this smaller group of some of Dylan's best tracks from the period is. It is one of Bob Dylan's strongest albums in my opinion, and works great as a 14 track single LP.
