NEVER RELEASED ON LP OR CD, THIS IS ONE OF DYLAN'S MOST INSPIRED PERFORMANCES AND HIS FIRST FULL-LENGTH CONCERT SINCE HIS RETIREMENT AFTER HIS MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT.

On 31 August a nervous Bob Dylan arrived on stage in a cream suit recalling Hank Williams, with a haircut and a short beard, performing his recent pieces from Nashville Skyline and John Wesley Harding: much to the surprise and confusion/consternation of the audience. During the press conference prior to his performance, Dylan remarked that he came to the Isle of Wight to see the birthplace of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, because he was "just curious". John Lennon opined that his performance was reasonable, though slightly flat; and still the audience was waiting for Godot or Jesus. Eric Clapton, however, was mesmerized, clearly - as he has stated, being inspired back to the blues and country by Bob Dylan and The Band's album Music From Big Pink - saying "Dylan was fantastic. He changed everything. ... [The audience] couldn't understand it. You had to be a musician to understand it." Levon Helm commented on their latency on the bill: "Bob had an extra list of songs with about eight or ten different titles ... that we would've gone ahead and done had it seemed like the right thing to do. But it seemed like everyone was a bit tired ... the festival was three days old by then." Tom Paxton mentions the "negative reaction in the British press, including downright fabrications: like saying he had run off stage half-way through. ... I went with him and The Beatles to the farmhouse where he was clearly in a merry mood because he had felt it had gone so well. ... The Beatles had brought a test pressing of [ Abbey Road ] and we listened to it and had quite a party."

This LP is by Bob Dylan and is titled "GWW- Isle of Wight". It was originally released on the Trade Mark of Quality label. This copy bears the TMOQ stamp but is a later pressing and may not be an actual TMOQ issue.

It consists of the complete Isle of Wight concert on August 31, 1969. The songs are- She Belongs To Me/I Threw It All Away/Maggie's Farm/The Wild Mountain Thyme/It Ain't Me Babe/To Ramona/Lay Lady Lay/Highway 61 Revisited/One Too Many Mornings/I Pity the Poor Immigrant/Like A Rolling Stone/I'll Be Your Baby tonight/The Mighty Quinn (Quinn the Exkimo)/Minstrel Boy/Rainy Day Women #12 & 35/Mr. Tambourine Man/I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine.

The front cover art is a printed sheet which has been glued to the album sleeve. It is partially ripped.

We ship all LP's in new (unused) custom LP mailers. We pack records with filler pads, placing the disc in an inner sleeve outside the cover to prevent seam splitting in transit. Part of our postage fee covers the cost of the mailer and pads (which currently costs us up to a dollar per).

RECORD GRADING POLICY

MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale

EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially affect play

VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.

VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.

VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.

Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like

Fair = you’re getting this record just to own but not to play
