Description
In 1976, reggae superstars Bob Marley and the Wailers released their eighth studio album titled 'Rastaman Vibrations'. That great record features the talents of awesome reggae artists like the Barrett brothers Aston "Family Man" and Carlton "Carly" on bass and drum, holding down the rhythm section. "Chinna" Smith, Donald Kinsey and Al Anderson all play lead guitar. Tyrone Downie and "Seeco" Patterson play keyboards and percussion, and, of course, the 'I Threes' (Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt) are on backing vocals!
There are no really big radio hits from this album, but it's still a reggae classic. It actually became the first Bob Marley album to reach the Billboard Top 200 albums top ten, peaking at number 8. And the single "Roots, Rock, Reggae" peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2009, "Family Man" son Aston Barrett Jr. began performing with The Wailers Band. In 2015, Barrett Sr. began reuniting members into the Wailers United Band, featuring Jr. and Sr. "Family Man" had a total of FORTY ONE children, which might be why he was called that nickname! The Wailers United toured both the US and the UK in 2016, then "Family Man" retired after the tour ended (though he was still credited as being an official band member until 2020). Jr. took over on drums, and a protege of "Family Man", a musician named "Dreadie" Reid, took over on bass. "Family Man" passed away earlier this year, in February.
Today we feature the 2015 reissue of 'Rastaman Vibrations', on 180 gram vinyl, and in awesome condition. Oh, and it's signed by Aston "Family Man" Barrett! He was called "Family MAN", but he always signed "MON", as Jamaicans say the word 'man'. A close friend of mine met him on that tour, and he had this album with him, so he got Barrett to sign it, which he did. He was very laid back and friendly, and was happy to sign it! This thing looks new, and the vinyl itself is still shiny and clean. Gatefold jacket also looks new! A sweet Wailers collectible to own...
