Description
On offer is a 1975 LP by BOB STEWART called THE UNIQUE SOUND OF THE PSALTERYon ARGO, catalogue number ZDA 207.
“Unique sound” is about right for this mesmerising combination of the ancient psaltery, playing ancient ceremonial songs such as 'The Leaves of Life' and 'The Candlemass Carol', shot through with discreet electronica.
This labels are PRISTINE with no wear, no writing, and no spindle marks on the labels. The catalogue number is stamped into the dead wax of the run-off groove. The record is NEAR MINT, with still shiny grooves, no scratches, no scuffmarks, no pops, no sticking and no background noise (especially important with such rarefied music as this). One superficial scratch at the end of side one doesn’t sound. Similarly, the laminate cover is in near mint condition, with no yellowing, no grubbiness and no writing. The edges are straight and sharp with no cornerwear. In short, this rare LP looks as if it were minted yesterday.

The album comes from the collection of the late Ian Chappell, director of the Hampshire-based South Eastern Museums Service. A devoted collector of folk music, Chappell would obsessively buy multiple copies of the same record in search of vinyl perfection. They were acquired by the seller at auction from Omega Auctions of Stockport in June 2012.
