WebVinyl.Com Presents!
Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans
"Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" Philles LP! No Reserve!
Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans - "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" Philles Records PHLP-4002 (Mono) from 1963. Hard to find example of the sole album for one of Phil Spector's invented studio groups. Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans was initially conceived as a vehicle for the lead vocals of Bobby Sheen, who took the stage name Bob B. Soxx. "The Blue Jeans" were backing vocalists, Darlene Love and Fanita James, both of whom were also members of girl group The Blossoms.
Despite Sheen's status as group leader, Spector was often used Darlene Love as the group's primary vocalist. Sheen and Love share vocal duties on this, the only album the group ever recorded. Sheen sings lead on the group's first hit single of the album: 1962's "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" (originally from the 1946 Disney movie Song of the South). Love, meanwhile, handles the lead vocals on the follow-up single: "Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?" (also included on this album). Sheen can be heard as lead vocalist on the group's final recordings, "The Bells of St. Mary's" and "Here Comes Santa Claus," two cuts on the classic Spector-produced LP "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector" (1963), on which Love also appears as a solo artist.
After 1963 the group was dropped by Philles Records and effectively ceased to exist. Love recorded a few solo hits, but, more memorably was the lead vocalist on at least two hit records by The Crystals. It is also alleged that Sheen and Love were the voices behind the hit "He's A Rebel".
Includes the stellar "Wrecking Crew" (kind of unusual to see them credited): Glenn Campbell, Billy Strange, Carol Kaye, Al DeLory, Nino Tempo, Leon Russel, Don Randi, Hal Blaine, Frank Capp and a bunch more greats!
In pretty decent condition. The cover shows some ring and edge wear but is still nice looking. The bottom seam is more or less split and the top is about half split while the spine has been taped so I have to assume that it is at least half split under the tape. There is also a promo sawcut in the lower right corner. Despite all that, the cover still looks good if kept in a plastic sleeve. Not really sure what to grade it as but I think that, as the scan shows, it's not bad so... let's call it Good! No other Promo markings. The vinyl itself is also pretty good! There are overall light scuffs but nothing deep and I'd expect that it should play nicely (given Spector's love of cheap vinyl) with just some groove noise so I'd give it a VG.
Any marks, streaks, blotches, etc. not mentioned in the write up of the LP are scanner artifacts, not actual flaws in the LP or cover.

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over nine years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
