STRAIGHT AHEAD / IN A STRANGE STRANGE LAND ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by THE BOBBY BOYD CONGRESS. Original French pressing on OKAPI label (45.563), from 1971. Killer French-only funk and spiritual jazz grail featuring the 2 hottest themes from their legendary Lp (actually, waay more difficult to find than the Lp ;) STRAIGHT AHEAD is the punishingly hard and stoned funk side with brutal drum breaks / super-heavy bassline and angry female vocals. The IN A STRANGE STRANGE LAND side is also amazing with that desirable, spiritual jazz / funk crossover sound. Lots of break-beat drums / soulful singing cum spoken word rap with a message. The group's horn section is simply incredible too. Insanely aggressive on the STRAIGHT AHEAD theme and more afro-centric Tribe / Strata East label style with trumpet solos midway IN A STRANGE STRANGE LAND. As far as we know, this 7-inch only received a micro press run, rumoured to be around 200 / 300 copies. Bobby Boyd Congress (minus Bobby) later became the inhouse session band at the Parisound studio of producer, Pierre Jaubert. Frank Abel / Lafayette Hudson etc were all still living in Paris when they recorded the Malik and Soul Makossa session in the mid '70s under their new name, Lafayette Afro Rock Band. Here is their finest moment on wax. Great for DJs. Booming production sound. Striking artwork picture sleeve. Top copy, we doubt you will ever find it in better condition than this one :) Very rare 45!!!

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG++ condition (closer to M- overall) with a few hairlines / faint paper scuffs. Light surface noises. Some faded, old pressing residue marks. Booming production sound. One audible soft pop midway "In A Strange Strange Land" side (as you can hear on the soundclip) but item possibly unplayed prior to the recording of this soundclip. Some ink fading to both sides of the label. The card picture sleeve is in VG++ condition overall with some edge and corner wear. Some light ring creasing and ring dirt marks. Okapi label / Sonopress distribution sticker to bottom of back sleeve. Very rare 45!!!
