THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE RECORDS IN THE COLLECTION ARE UNPLAYED AND HAVE BEEN CAREFULLY STORED FOR OVER 30 YEARS. TODAY'S OFFERING: BOBBY CHARLES' LEGENDARY FIRST ALBUM AND THE SOUTHERN ROCK CLASSIC!! FEATURES MEMEBERS OF THE BAND (LEVON HELM, RICK DANKO, RICHARD MANUEL AND GARTH HUDSON) AS WELL AS DR. JOHN, BOB NEUWIRTH, AND GEOFF MULDAUR!! THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE LP MADE EVEN RARER FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1) IT IS A WHITE LABEL PROMO. PROMOS ARE ALWAYS LIMITED IN QUANTITY BECAUSE THEY WERE ONLY SENT OUT TO RADIO STATIONS AND REVIEWERS. THE RATIO OF PROMO TO STANDARD ISSUE LPs IS 1:100 OR GREATER! 2) THE LP WAS MASTERED BY ROBERT LUDWIG AND IS THEREFORE CONSIDERED A "HOT" PRESSING. LUDWIG'S INITIALS, "RL", ARE ETCHED IN THE TRAIL-OFF GROOVE OF THE LP NEXT TO THE MACHINE STAMPED "STERLING", THE NAME OF THE FACTORY WHERE THE LP WAS PRESSED. ROBERT LUDWIG LPs ARE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER FOR THEIR SUPERIOR AUDIO QUALITY. COVER IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH LIGHT RINGWEAR AND SOME WEAR TO THE EDGES. VINYL IS NEAR MINT! EXTREMELY RARE COPY IN UNUSUALLY GOOD CONDITION!! Hooking up with the Band, specifically Rick Danko and their producer John Simon, was one of the smartest moves Bobby Charles ever made. His subsequent eponymous album on Bearsville not only gave him a bigger audience, but led to the perfect production for his sly, subtle blend of New Orleans R&B, rock & roll, and country. Partially, that's because the production is fuller, richer than his sides for Chess, Jewel, and Paula, boasting not just some grit, but a sweetness on ballads like "I Must Be in a Good Place Now," a tune every bit as good as those from the singer/songwriters who dominated the charts in 1972. This gives the album an earthier quality than anything else he recorded; it also makes the album feel like a perfect companion piece to other roots rock albums from the time like, of course, the Band. Still, there's a special charm to this record, largely because while it sounds contemporary, it retains Charles' mellow vibe and his sharp songwriting. The songs come on slow -- "Street People," "He's Got All the Whiskey," and "Small Town Talk" all slowly unwind -- but the slow build is friendly, welcoming you into the song. This isn't lazy music, but it takes its time and it's better for it; it's perfect music for a hot summer afternoon. It's a true hidden gem of blue-eyed soul, Southern R&B, and early '70s roots rock (and early-'70s singer/songwriterism, for that matter).The image included with the auction is a scan of the actual item but, due to size limitations of the scanner, the edges of the item may have been cropped.

RECORD GRADING POLICY
MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale
EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play
VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially affect play
VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.
VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.
VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.
Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like
Fair = you are getting this record just to own but not to play
Poor = the sky's the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
