BOBBY RAY & THE GENTS -- Make You Feel Like Livin' / My Brother -- hard to find, original 1964 U.S. 45 RPM single. Wicked rare early Sixties single on the highly sought-after Emmy label by vocalist Bobby Ray and the Gents, who recorded several 45's for producer Paul Buff (famed for tons of early 60's Doo Wop, Northern Soul, Surf and Garage classics); a young Frank Zappa became part of Buff's studio band in the late 1950's and played on numerous singles for Buff. It's not clear whether Zappa played on this 45 or not (this was actually the last release on the Emmy label), but he did work with Bobby Ray on the theme to the amazingly gonzo cult movie "The World's Greatest Sinner." A-side here "Make You Feel Like Livin'" is fantastic uptempo Ral Donner/Terry Stafford-like Northern Soul-Rock-R&B number with irresistible groove and vocals, totally killer. B-side "My Brother" is equally good, heartbreaking slow ballad again with that deep soulful Ral Donner vibe. Note that the flipside of the label has an original address label for Original Sound attached to it. A very, very difficult record to come by -- I've never seen another copy. In generic white sleeve. Record: VG+, light surface wear, overall quite clean, red "X" on one side of label and Original Sound label on other side, on Emmy label, U.S. press.
